Question To Paint or Not to Paint

Ladies and Gentlemen, looking for you input/opinion on this matter. Took my SC400 in to get new rear struts when the Toyota Dealership accidently ran the car into the garage door. They are taking the car to a Lexus certified paint shop to get the entire front end done, but since this car is 12 years old and had more then one touch up, I was thinking about paining (and paying) for the rest (doors back).

The price to paint doors back is $1,600. That includes pulling out all the little dinks I have put in through the years.

Is this too much? Am I wasting my time?

$1600 for body work and repaint of the rest of the car is a bargin IMHO. Just a good paint jopb with no bodywork would run at least $2000 in my area. Now, if you are talking about just 1 little ding, I'm not sure, but since you mentioned "All the little dings" I'll assume you have a bunch. Pulling out those little dings can add up real fast. If you can swing the extra $1600 I would do it. Since the shop is paying for the front end, think of it as $1600 for a complete exterior refresh.

well.. i might just go ahead and let them paint that section only
and if it doesn't match, you have the right to complain and tell them to fix it.

they should do it for free if they mess up

Do it. That's a steal, and you'll fall in love with your car all over again with fresh paint and no dings.

A decent paint job in my area definitely isn't cheap. The price they gave you is very fair.

Damn, I thought I was going to be the first one to say it, lol.

Definately go with a 1997 update, atleast in the front end

Default If the color is sold vs metalic

If it is a sold color without metaliic in it, just repair it and have them compound the rest of the car so there is a better chance it will look consistent.
If metallic, the likelihood is that it may not match at a certain angle when looking at it in the sunlight..

If you are going to keep the car for a few years, paint it completely, if you will soon part with it, repair it.

Well most of the peeps think you should go for it. I say it depends. If you really like the car and plan on keeping it for a while AND the $1600 isn't going to hurt you then YES. If you are not sure or the $1600 will hurt, then no. I am in agreement with SupraCoupe3 and mteele on doing the 97 conversion if you can swing that in with the paint.

the body style is different from 97-00
front bumper, door mouldings, rear bumper, side skirts, fog lights, and grille are the main parts of it

here is a 97+ front end
