Default Diagnostic code #25 !!! '93 SC400 176000 mi

This just might save someone some money...........Check engine/Trac control lights came on a few months ago, but would go out after sitting a while, so I thought it was a short or something, after they became more persistant I did some research and found that code 25 was a lean fuel ratio, I was told the o2 sensors were probably shot, so I went to my local auto parts store to price them. My friend behind the counter suggested I try the fuel filter beforre I go for the big bucks and I did. For $19.00 instead of $400.00 the lights went out. Sometimes you get to be the bug, sometimes you get to be the windshield, its better being the windshield!!!!!

That's great. I hope that's the problem. When i had asked about this code, they had said it was a vaccum leak. I'll try the filter first though. Thanks for posting this great tip.

Good Luck Bud, I hope you get the same result. As it turns out the same thing has happened twice more and both times the fuel filter fixed it. It seems about every two years the filter gets clogged up and gives me the same code 25. My 1993 sc400 now has 240,000 miles and is in the hands of my 16 year old, I told him we should remove the gas tank and clean it out and avoid the situation completly.

No doubt I got lucky with that $19.00 filter, cause when I got the "25" I was told it was low fuel to air ratio(which is why the fuel filter worked) and they had me checking the air flow meter, O2 sensors and a host of other things......I assume when you say no power, you mean horsepower and not electrical power, if so, how old are your catalytic converters? Once they clogged up they are done. E-bay has cheap after market units. Good Luck

Yeah, already had the fuel pump changed out. I'm pretty sure that it could be the filter. I wish I had some time to actually get to doing it.

How long did it take for the check engine light to clear? I change the filter yesterday and have driven about 75 miles so far, and it still hasn't cleared.

You'll find it under the car between the driver door and the rear wheel. Good Luck, let me know how you make out.

That's what I thought. Mine hasn't cleared yet so I got some mass air flow sensor cleaner. Going to try and clean it out in the morning. Someone suggested that there might be a vacuum leak and to spray carb cleaner around the intake to see where the leak is, if there is any. Hope the mass air flow sensor cleaner works, if not, I might have to take the objectors out and clean them.
