Question

I just bought a 1992 SC400 last night and tried to play recorded CD's but none will play. I have the 12 disk cd changer in the back and my other cd's will work.
The problem is, about 90% of my cd's that I listen to are CDR's.

1) Is there any way I can get my 12 disk changer to play them?
2) If not, is there a newer year that I could change out the disk changer and it would work WITHOUT having to do any system changes? If there is, what year?
3) If there are no newer years that play CDR's, what are good (decent price) brands that will work with the Lexus audio system.

Thanks in advance.

Which CDR are you using? In my experience, my cd changer won't play the cheapo CDR's (like PNY etc.) Also, i believe you have to finalize each cd, some cd players will play non-finalized cdr's, but in my experience, the SC cd changer won't.

I too have had problems with CDRs in 12 banger as well. Still in testing mode but several things I have tried have improved playability.
1.Recording CD at 1x speed
2. Using the special Music recordable CDR blanks. Had modest success with Memorex.
3. Using Nero Burning CD ROM software.
My problem more relates to skipping. All CDRs will play they just skip badly, even with car sitting still.
Good Luck

Lightbulb Choose GOLD CDR Disc

Use GOLD CDR Disc and you will be fine. Green and blue cdr disc is not as good as gold for music cd player compatibilty.

KODAK CDR disc and Ricoh cdr discs are gold one.

I admit, I do use cheap CDR's but have never had a problem in the past. I would hate to have to copy all of the cds again just to be able to play them in the car, but that's what it may come down to. At least that would be cheaper then buying a new disk changer.

So, I am still wondering how hard it would be to switch out cd changers between different Lexus years or different brands. Any feedback is good feedback.

The changer found in the SC is an SC only CD changer. Anyways, even if you buy a brand new one (1,500) it will most probably still have the same problems in playing your CDR's.

As of now, there are no other CD changers that will work with the OEM connections.

Unhappy that sux...

That sux...

Well, thanx for the info. I guess I am going to have to try different CD's.

By the way, I know someone with a 1995 SC400 that uses the same CDR's and it works. Hum...oh well. Sux for me.

Default thanx

Yeah, I at least I have a cd player, though it would be nice if there was one in the dash. <shrug>

vj604 - What year is your SC? Is it a 12 disk cd changer?

Default i feel ya..

My 92 sc400 with the 12 disc changer has the same problem. I'm able to play the burned CD's, but they just skip badly. Most of the time it shows an error "ERR" on the screen. I've tried many different types and gold does show best results for me. I've used the green, blue, black, silver...and gold is the best.

I guess it's just our year & model that has this problem. My aunt has a 91 or 92 LS400 and it plays burned CD's no problem.

Oh well,
Tony

My 95 SC400 with Nakamichi and 12 pack, doesn't have problem playing CDRs. I have green, blue, gold CDRs from different manufacturers. Some of them skip, but usually because of the dirt or scratches.

So, am I able to switch out the changers from different years? What would be involved if I had to do that? Wires, plugs, etc...

By the way, that you all for the feedback.
