SC 300/400 and snow?
I am looking into buying a 97+ SC 300 or 400. It will be my daily driver as I will retire my lifted Tahoe due to such high gas prices. I am moving to Denver this summer for a new job. How do the SC's perform in wintery conditions? I am looking at both an SC or an Acura TL. I like the look and feel of the SC's better but I may be leaning towards the TL due to its front wheel drive configuration.
My other question is where is the best place to find a moderately priced SC? My budget will allow me to spend close to 15k on a car. Most of the 99 and 2000 SC's are still going for close to $20,000.

I'm outside of Cleveland, and we see a lot of snow. Snow tires make all the difference in the world.. I do a lot of driving on backroads and freeways, and while its not great in the snow and ice the car is very competent and I haven't had any "oh sh_ts" like I used to have in my truck .
I'm running Goodyear GW3 snowtires 225/55-16, and a set of 4 is less than my insurance deductible so it was a no-brainer to put them on..

Just an update, we had record snow this year in the Cleveland area and my SC was fine, you need quality snow tires though, I have run both the Goodyear GW3's and the Dunlop M3's and would recommend both of them. Make sure you get a SC with traction control.

If you want a solid winter driver, buy a Subaru or if you need more class, an Audi

I went to the Lexus dealer today on the off chance that they would have a few SC's on the lot that I could look at. While I was looking around I found out that the service manager was selling his personal SC400. He had the car in the service garage so he let me go back and check it out. It is a 96 bright red sc400 w/ 87,000 miles on the ticker. The car is in mint condition. It looks as if you could eat off of the engine compartment and the interior is in perfect shape. With him being the service manager I don't believe you could purchase the car from a better seller.
I told him I was interested and I am going back tommorow take it for a test drive. His asking price is a bit high so I need to work on him. Plus I understand that at 90,000 there is a significant amount of maintanence that needs to be performed.
He is asking 14,500. I am going to try to get him down to 12,000 or 12,500 and go from there.

The SC is horrible in snow compared to FWD vehicles with traction control. However with a set of good winter tires and sensible winter driving, the SC can get through winters.
