Wow. I was just involved in the exact same type of accident.
Gunned it from a light....slight turn...shifted into 2nd on some gravel....overcorrected....took on a curb at ~45...flew over the separation....hopped off the curb on the other side.....and barely tapped the car that was standing there because I was already going about 5 mph.
I didn't take my car to a shop so i don't really know what they would say, but both my airbags deployed when i nailed the curb, so I'm pretty sure they'd total it.
