What were the exact part number that you bought? Were they
81523-24045 driver side

so being new here, I have a 1998 SC400. Do I have to replace my headlight assembly and then get the HID kit to have this effect, or can I just get an HID kit and be OK. I appreciate any feedback

You would have to buy new headlights.. Only NEW headlights made after 2002 for the 97+ SC have this effect

How would you know if they were built after 02 or not?

I think pretty much any new purchased headlight from a lexus dealership is made after 2002.
The reason I say that is because between SC's that have been in minor front end collisions and people just purchasing new headlights, I think Lexus is probably still producing them at a high rate.

I have to say (and maybe i'm being a bit quick to judge), but I'm disappointed with my brand new headlights. I bought them from ryan at Irontoad.com just like you guys, but my improvement in lense flare, cutoff, and beam pattern is marginal at best. Definitely could have saved my 500.00 and restored my "old" 97's Oh well, maybe they'll grow on me I will admit that they definitely are shiny though However, this could have been achieved by simply restoring them myself

I'm using a Osram / Hella kit 5800K approx (can't remember the exact K, but it was below 6000K)

hmmm. my output, cutoff and coverage changed completely. Honestly I can say it all improved at least 60% over factory.. so there might be an issue here. Can you take some pictures of the beam about 50-100ft off a wall?

Are you at least getting the Blue cutoff line?

Sure, I'll do it tomorrow, i don't have my camera with me, and i'm not at home... I will say that I did have a noticable difference between my 95 SC and my 97 SC (nothing amaizing though) just a sharper cutoff line with a bluish hue at the line... These have a bit sharper cutoff, but not by much Light output is maybe 5% greater... Could be that my car has been well kept, and my original 97 headlights didn't have much use (still got less than 60K on the clock) Dunno, but i am a bit bummed

I did notice a difference in how far my beam pattern goes... Approximately 20% farther (i do like that a lot), but still can't justify the money i spent...

My biggest "giggle factor" with my new headlights was the blue hue that they created. The side effects were the brighter output and sharper cuttoff line.

Perhaps you haven't gotten use to them yet (I could be wrong).

What I mean is, when I first put mine in it was hard to tell if they were any brighter until I drove the car at night and passed other cars with bright headlights (like GMC Envoys, and Infiniti G35s) and saw my headlight beam eclipse their headlight output while I am passing them (something I could not do with my old headlights even with HIDs)
