Default Woo...picked up an Indigo Blue 95 SC400

Picked up a 95 Lexus SC400 yestoday, 99k miles for 9.8k. It just had the major 90,000 mile service done (water pump and timing belt etc.) with new Michelins all around so that saves a bundle. New tint is next, followed by a replacement of th Nak sound system and nothing else after that...I already have a tinker toy. Drives smooth as hell, but it is a pig off the line and takes a bit to get going, but has excellent passing power...guess I'm used to the torque of the Cobra. I might be a victim of the dreaded 95 sc400 hesitation I've read about, but we'll see. It does stumble a bit taking off sometimes, or when lightly cruising at 35-50

Overall the paint looks excellent, some light scratches and 2 dents need to be pulled out. I've never been much of a fan of chrome wheels but I like them against the dark blue (Indigo Metallic) and will look better with darker tint, coming this week. I fell in love with the color the first time I saw it, which was the first time I'd ever seen it, haha. Awesome aerodyanics too, I caught the tail end of a hellacious Tstorm on the way back to Houston and didn't even feel the wind that would have knocked the Cobra back and forth like a boat. Which I'm keeping, it's getting a new tranny/clutch/aluminum flywheel/starter all at once soon.

Question...in regards to that Normal/Power ECT button...what does it do when you switch to Power? Add some timing? Lean it out a bit? I'm almost positive I can feel a small increase in power, especially when passing someone on the interstate, but maybe it's wishful thinking.

Moonroof is nice too, but that hard-on looking shifter is kind of in an awkward position, in the way of the radio kind-of, but no biggie

Oh yeah, the first mod was taking off that dealer emblem. I didn't buy it from Hillard Auto Park, so I'm not gonna advertise for you

And here's a decent pic of the Cobra is anyone cares about the ancient pushrod V8s. You won't see me doing a head swap in the driveway on the SC like this one

Cobras started the DOHC motors in 96. The 93-95s had the same shortblock as all other 5.0s but different heads, intake and a few other things. The SOHCs were the GTs, and from 96-98, were total dogs. In 99 Ford bumped them up to where they should have been.

As peryour question on the ECT pwr function, when PWR is ON, the car downshifts at less throttle than with ECT OFF. That's why you feel quicker passing people on the highway, because you dont have to depress the pedal as far to pick up speed. There is no increase in power, just a quicker downshift.

Thanks again guys. I got some new 35% tint today like the Cobra and added a few pics to my sig. Makes one helluva difference. The paint does have numerous light scratches over the ENTIRE car, like some idiot had been using a rough towel to dry it off Hey that's just another excuse to get me an orbital buffer. Anyone used one? I've heard good things about this Porter Cable model http://store.yahoo.com/autopia/pc-7424.html

The Porter Cable 7424 orbital is a professional grade piece of equipment. I own one and have been VERY satisfied with both its quality and performance. I'm sure many others will back me up on that - try the guys in the detailing forum.
