Default Restore or flog it? What should I do?

Hi guys,

Well I'm in a dilemma... I've owned my current Soarer since November 2001, and I've grown attached to it. I love the thing. However, it's come to the age when things are starting to break more often than not. I was planning a manual conversion plus coilovers but now I'm not so sure.

Now, I've got AUD$8000 to spend. My options are...
1. Keep my current Soarer (currently has 196000kms) and restore it (refer here )
OR
2. Buy another Soarer. I'm looking at a 1996 Soarer with the updated 1JZGTE VVTi single turbo. It's diamond pearl white, stock as a rock (except 18" SSR Koenig wheels), 60~70K on the clock, and auto (the only thing I'm not too sure about). It's got most options and in very nice condition.

Now, mind you I'm still in college. What would you choose and why?

Thanks

Jose

Sorry I should rephrase that.

Whatever I get for my Soarer (either private sale or trade in) I've got an extra $8000 if I decide to sell.

What would you do?

If you were gonna keep this one and put in a manual, why not get the newer one and then put in the manual on that one? Only thing is you may not have enough money on your budget after getting the newer soarer i suppose. If i were you, I'd go ahead and get the younger one. This way you (hopefully *knock on wood*) won't have to worry so much about things breaking. Then as you get some more $$$, go ahead with those planned mods. My .02.

Yeah I'd get the newer one too. Less headaches from little things breaking, and a fresh start. Sometimes the little things breaking can be expensive.

I'd get the newer one personally.. No need putting 8k into a car that is constantly breaking on you.

if you are 100% certian that the new one is mechanicly sound, then go with it. if you have any doubts that you may have the same issues with it, then you might as well just fix what you have. just be sure to swap over whatever mods your car has onto the new one.

Hrmmm... I'll have a look again tomorrow. I'm taking it for a test drive and getting a trade in valuation done, if my budget will cover the car I'll most likely get the newer one. And I wish I could afford to own two Soarers lol

Chino I'll find out if the guys from MV Automatics can send you a shift kit.

if you're in college, and judging by what your sig says, i'd keep that money and save it. When you graduate, buy the car you really want.

As for now, just keep your soarer until you're done with school. You don't need a nice ride now.

Very true...... But it would be nice to see a modded 1jz vvt-i on the forums. I'd like to see how they perform vs. the 1jz non-vvti.

Jose- if you can look into that shift kit thing for me i'd appreciate it

Thanks for the advice guys Well, fingers crossed... as I'm hoping to trade in my car for a decent price (with most common fixes done) as is (except for the HID, pod filter and blow off valve) maybe this week or next week. I was thinking a LOT about this and it doesn't make sense spending more on the car when I can get one of the updated equivalents (OK, so it's stock but still) in excellent condition.

Chino, will do bro
