hoods
ok the better question would be does anyone here in us have photos of vis, siebon or other fiberglass hoods on their cars to see how good or bad the fitment is? Also approximately what are the weight savings on going to a glass hood?

It's a Seibon hood. Good fitment. a lil gap on the driver side of the hood. It's not 8 lbs, but it's certainly much lighter than the OEM hood. Looks a lot better too.
Had it on for a while. Color looks great, weave looks great. No discolorations.
The Cwings Carbon bumper is another story though. Such a bad fitting bumper.

what about frp hoods? any body make those. I want one to make a custome vented hood using some vents from a lumina. Don't laugh the lumina vents look good when spaced and placed properly. I saw it on a supra and fell in love with it.

well i have sold and installed lots of vis hood and some seibons, my friend did metioned me that seibon is better and vis sux... but when i saw the result they were just same. from my veiw when ppl purchase there parts because it's hand made it's all different. i have seen both carbon fiber parts turned yellowish (including my old celica hood) or stayed same as the first time when we purchased... just think as like 50/50 some fits perfect and they don't turn yellowish color but some do and fits just bad... i've bought a lot of vis kits. they really don't fit right then carbon fiber hood. every time we installed it it wasn't perfect but some kit was easier to install then others. i even had a back bumper was 6 inch longer and it was impossible to fit it unless we go wide body... lol i mean it's made by ppl not one person... it can be good fit and good qulity or just bad bad bad...

I have a VIS hood on my car and it fits PERFECTLY... the only issue is that it's a tad low on one side, thats because I lost the little rubber bumpers off the factory hood, which would fix that issue...
I've had my hood for 8 months now and no issues at all... I didnt weigh it when I got it, but I would think around 25 lbs - its hard to tell the weight on large items...
for the record, I do not have hood pins, I use the factory latch, and there is no cowl shake from speeds up to 100+ mph...
For those that are set on the $4000 hoods, be my guest, but is it really worth $3400 more than I got my hood for for 17 lbs???
For $3400, I could save 17 lbs off my set of wheels/tires, and be saving rotating mass as well...
I was actually very surprised at the quality of my hood when I got it... I had a CF hood on my 3000GT (no real brand name) and the quality of the VIS is much much better...
The Seibon stuff looks nice as well, but, in my experience, you get consistently good results with the VIS stuff...

One of my CF hoods is made with 8k fabric, 4 layers top and bottom and I wont run without pins anymore.
Its custom, better than anything ive seen on the market, but not worth the production costs, so it was discontinued. Most people want 'the look' at the lowest price possible....but I can stand on my hood.
