Newbie here - very impressed with CL and the SC
Hey guys, I'm new here. First, let me apologize for the long post.
Currently, I have an '03 Nissan Murano (family car) and a '98 Grand Prix GTP.
The GTP is slightly modded (smaller s.c. pulley, exhaust, pcm, etc) and used to run well. It has 153K miles on her and it's time to get rid of it. Honestly, the quality/craftsmanship of this car is CRAP. I bought the car about 5 years ago and to be frank, it started to give me problems from the beginning. I decided to keep it because I got the car dirt cheap and the problems I had weren't "show-stoppers". It was the stupid things like molding around the windows coming apart, the wipers not parking in the correct position, the heater vents snapping off, etc...etc...etc..
Anyway, I've decided to get rid of it and buy another car. I wanted to get a '00 or '01 Lexus GS but the wife and I are buying a house soon so my budget is around $5-$8k (not including mods ).
I've spent the last 3 months researching several cars that caught my interest and it's amazing what kind of information you can find on the net.
Here's a few that I considered.
97-99 Mits. Diamante: Serious heater core issues and costly. There were a few other bugs but that was the biggest problem
94-00 Acuras (Legend, TL, RL): I was very disappointed in the transmission issue with Acura. They've got some serious problems. I've spent a lot of time on acura-legend.com and a few other Acura/Honda sites and it was enough to turn me off.
97-00 Mazda Millenia: There were a few issues but after visiting their forums, I didn't get a "confident" feeling about the vehicle and it's not "sexy" enough.
So now comes the LEXUS SC300.
I've owned two Supras in my lifetime (lucky me). Due to having two kids, they didn't stay with me for long but I did enjoy them. The reliabilty of the several Toyotas I've owned has been SUPERB.
That led me to really consider the SC especially after I found out the SC300 had pretty much the same guts as the NA Supra ( ).
Now, I know every car has it quirks but after researching the SC on this site and a few others, I feel very good about my next purchase, which will be a SC300 I love reading threads about these cars going over 150K miles....without major issues and still running strong.
I look forward to chatting with you guys soon.
TIA,
Orlando

But anyways, im surprised that you had a toyota and got other vehicle makes afterwords. Because once I went toyota/lexus, I never went to anything else except for maybe mercedes.
I know this may be a bold statement, but I believe that the SC300 is one of the best made cars that ever came out of the 20th century. It has the luxury of the lexus, but the heart of a supra. The best of both worlds hands down.
And more importantly, you have a vast community that is willing to help you and get to have the oppourtunity to meet new people through club lexus meets

Welcome aboard! youll enjoy it, just remember to use the search function beforehand
I used to be a moderator at one of the Chicago Grand Prix Clubs and I've had my share of newbies asking questions before posting.

And thanks to everyone else for the warm welcome. I've only surfed this site for a short time but so far there seems to be a good bunch of people here and lots of knowledge.
I just love the fact that these cars can put so many miles on them and still run strong....not to mention the classy looks that this car stll has.
I will be test driving a few Scs that I have found, over the next week or so, and will post pics...when I finally got it.
Peace....and I'll be chatting with you guys on my future mods.
