Instrument cluster dim-only93-94 models or is it 97 and up also?-
I repaired my 93LS cluster with the usual capacitors. Thanks all.
BUT, has anyone with the later years SC400 or LS400 had the same problems???
Does anyone know if they improved the later model years?
Or is it just a matter of time and the same thing will happen to my 1997 SC????

Yes it will happen.
No, it is not a board problem.
Yes they are wired completely backwards and it really screws everything up.
That is all
Well, ......P.S.- I see on the average (12) 92-94 clusters per week and (8) 95+ clusters per week. The 97+ needles are actually a revert back to the original needles from 92-94. The case is different, and wired backwards, but same SMD's.

Backwards wiring?
Thanks for the reply,
What do you mean by "wired backwards"?
Are you saying that the board looks like it is the opposite configuration?
Did the 97 use the same components, ... and am I going to just go ahead and replace the same capacitors?
Thanks

as i said it is NOT a board problem, so replace the capacitors all you want, won't help.
The ice blue thread stickied up there has tons of pics and info on failure. That''s why we keep it up there, it's probably the best resource of electrical info on the most common Sc problem you'll ever see again. Infact the LLS forums don't even have those detailed pics of the unit broken down. On a section of pages the unit was actually broken down into pieces and detailed. Pics of the exact failure, explanations, etc.
Nothing in the 97 will crossover to any previous cluster. not the needles, not a single thing.

Did not read the Sticky at the start of the threads
OLT,
I had not previously read the thread as a repair need.
The thread is SO large that , I figured it was for cosmetic changes only. Didn't realize it was also to repair those defective instrument clusters.
Looks like you have done a tremendous amount of work in this area.
By the way, what is the longevity of the waterfall needles?
Are the defective needles more a function of time or # of miles on the vehicle?
When my 97 goes, thats what I will order.
Looks (from the thread) that some repaired needles had problems with the light changing shortly after they got their needles, have those issues been addressed?
Thanks for the info. Very "enlightening". : )
