Custom Exhaust????????
#1
A guy at my school has an Infiniti I30 and he got his exhaust straight piped last yr. along w/ taking out the cat. convertor(s). We both thought that it would sound awsome being straight piped, and would help performance (this was before i found this sight). After he got it done, he still thinks it sounds awsome, but me and everyone else at the school thinks it now sounds like some old beat up 1983 Chevy or sumthing. When u guys refer to getting a custom exhaust, r u guys getting it straight piped or what b/c i sure wouldn't want my Lexus to sound like one POS.

gotta be careful...theres 3 cats in the SC3..you take out two of them and it gets loud....you replace the bent pipe with like 2 and a half inch or 2 3/4" and it gets louder...you add mufflers and its even louder...sometimes overkill..and if its not forced induction, you dont get much gain out of it...sounds cool but thats it...also watch ground clearance...and if you drop the car or not.

I removed one cat, both silencers, and am using SuperTurbo mufflers. SuperTurbo's don't really increase sound that much, but they remove plenty of backpressure. I'm also using 3" pipe to the split and 2.75" after it, the 1/4" less was for ground clearance. Every 1/4" counts!! lol It's not all that loud, but sounds MUCH better and meaner. If you go to my website you can listen to it....on the main page scroll down a little below the picture, there's a link there to it. Right click and save it locally first. Remember that it's only that loud because the microphone was RIGHT by the exhaust pipes.

Wiz.....did u basically get the pipe diameters increased (excluding the cat. convertors and silencers)? Did u get the custom 3" and 2.75" pipes bent just like the original exhaust?
Also, does anyone else have any ideas on what type exhaust to get made? (In other words, what other type custom exhausts have people tried/put on their SC?)

All said and done, almost $400. This includes purchasing aftermarket chrome tips, since the factory ones were too small to put on those mufflers. That price includes mufflers. I think the mufflers were like $70 each, $46 total for both tips, which leaves about $284 for the rest of the work.
Had I gone with smaller diameter pipe, they could have used the factory tips, and saved me $46.
Also since my stock exhaust system was removed and not modified, that left the option open for me to resell that if possible. Well the muffler shop offered me $100 for it, and I didn't want to take it home anyways. So my actual bill was less than $300.
I had this done at a local chain muffler shop, Monroe. I think those are all over the US.

damn - I would have gladly given you $100 for your stock exhaust!lol! Did you notice any cabin resonance w/ the custom exhaust? Apparently Lexus uses double-walled piping or something for their exhaust for xtra sound deadening??
