A person making under 50k a year shouldnt be driving a 50k car IMHO.
Even if you live with parents, its financially retarded to do that.

I have financed a car that was 50k off the lot years ago...I hated making $800 payments. I ended up paying it off and selling it when I was able to do so.
The funny part was that I came to this decision listening to an old CD by (Bay area Rapper) E40. He had a line that said "Dont buy a 50,000 car before u buy a house....."

From that point I only bought cars that I could pay for up front....So that I can hold the title to every car that I own. It also means that I will probably never have a brand new car....Simply because my taste in new cars exceeds my current paychecks

Not saying people should be a cheap *** like me but 'credit card tuning' is bad business and people loooove to buy cars they cant really afford.

My personal rule is: Never make long term payments on anything that dosent have a house sitting on top of it

Agreed! Generally a good rule to follow is that you should never purchase a car, with a total price, exceeding HALF your yearly income.

My rule of thumb is to own pre 1973 chevy's. They dont depreciate like new cars do.

I picked "No, can not afford" but at the same time even if I had the money I wouldn't buy a $50,000 (new) car. It's much smarter to buy a used/preowned car where you can spend half as much or less when it's a few years old. My SC4 was $52,500 when it was new and I paid about $8,000 for it (12 years old, though) so that seems to be the way to go. I feel like I have the best of both worlds: a $50,000+ car for $8,000.

Just got rid of my 06 G35, 43k sticker for my 99 SC400. I am through with the car payments. In a way I did buy a $50,000 car, I think the sticker for the 99 SC400 was that. LOL And who knows, by the time I am done with the mods, the total might be $50k LOL

I can and usually I would never spend that kind of money even though that its possible because,
I agree with Emerald, you should never spend that kind of money on a car without having a house first!
But I plan on a new GTR! not this first production run but most likely the Nismo edition that they are talking about in 2010. That will probably be the last car I ever buy new!
Other than that save your money and buy used cars with low miles!

I've been contemplating this a lot lately. I want to buy a 911 turbo (used), but I've put too much time and money into my car, and would lose a ton on upgrades. I still have a lot of fun in my SC, and love the looks, but I just wish I could make it quicker without having to swap engines or bolt on a turbo kit.

I don't want to put anymore money into my SC when I could be putting it towards a Porsche. Now I'm stuck in a position of not wanting to spend anymore on my SC, but also not wanting to sell it when I consider how much I've put into it.

I ordered a BMW M6 a few months ago, but I did it for business purposes. I love my SC, unfortunately, a lot of my clients are older and don't really care for/understand the whole swap concept as it's a bit much for them. This time last year, I had a new Subaru STI, new Audi S4, both my 600whp DSM's, and the SC. I've since narrowed it down to the DSM's, the M6, and the SC. (oh, and a CBR 600RR, but I didn't think that counted)

Am still poor to be buying another car, let alone a 50K car. I think I have enough with my SC, LS and 240sx projects. Maybe in 1 a year or so. I hope!
