matching paint....easy?
ok i have my AC kit in cali. and i was wondering if i should have it painted then shipped here to NJ. if i gave them the paint code is it easy yo match? BTW my paint is red. i know some colors its hard to match. is red an easy or hard color? should i just have it shipped here then painted. im only asking cuz i know i can get it painted cheaper in cali.

I would install it on your car and then paint it. Even with the same color code, when paint is mixed it always comes out a bit different than the current paint that is on your car. If you have it painted after it is installed, the body shop (hopefully you have a good one) will paint the kit and slightly alter the surrounding paint to blend it all together nicely. It's a bit harder to match up perfectly with something like red if you are having it painted elsewhere, because ANY difference in shade will be immediately noticeable.

He's asking if he should get his kit painted first and THEN shipped to him from Cali or if he should just have it painted once it arrives to him on the east coast. Your post made no sense in reference to his question. How can he refuse his own property??? lol.
My opinion is to have it painted where the car is. Matching red isn't the easiest thing in the world and if you try to save a little on having it painted out west and then shipped, you might have to fork over MORE money once it reaches you to have the paint blended.
I guess the most important question here is how much will it save you to have is painted in Cali? Also remember that it might be scratched while in transit, that's another thing to consider.

There is also the issue of paint fade. How old is your car and how much is it outside? The best thing to do is to paint match it on the car. A good shop should be able to get it real close. They start with the paint code but will tweak it to the current car color. Then, you really should blend the surrounding panels. This is the best way short of repainting the whole car.

i decided to have it painted here. i thought about it and there is no way the shop in cali could match it to my car. i think rising sun will help me out with paint and ding removal.
