Default Why not to buy a high Mileage 300?

Hey all Im planning on buying a lexus sc 300. prolly around a 93-94. I plan on turboing the car in the near future. Due to my budget I can only spend 6-7 to pick up a decent 5 speed, but all of them have 150+ of so miles on them. The motor and tranny can easily be replaced as I have extras but what other problems could I expect from a car with that high of mileage.

Welcome

Same as any other higher mileage car. Full tune up on chassis.

Welcome.

Check out this site. In the FAQ it lists common problems of the SC300 and how-to repairs for them as well.

http://www.intellexual.net/

In my own experience as far as problems with my car when I bought it...

92 Lexus SC300 5 speed...
Gauge cluster needles flicker/ out
window regulator broke
trunk lid struts weak
power steering hose leaked
condensation in headlights
water was leaking in onto the carpet

I fixed all these problems but the needles so far. Going to send it to Lextech when I have some extra cash. Most money I spent was on the regulator.

Engine was mechanically sound. Just did some preventative maintenance as I would with any other high mileage car... (Plugs, Wires, Air/Fuel filter, Timing belt etc)

Theres alot of content on these forums as well, so be sure to use the search button. You can find the answer to almost any question you have.

actually i just picked up a mint 93 with 83k on the clock. none of the common dash, cluster or door problems and it runs like a champ. i only paid 6600 for it at a dealership in cleveland. you just have to keep and eye out and jump on new for sales. took me two years to find one
