Default SC400 or SC300

Hi Guys. I'm currently looking at dumping my 740iL for either a '93-'97 SC400 or SC300. The question is which do you think is better? The SC400 or SC300 and which year? Since I've been driving a v8 engine for the past 3 years I'm a little hesitant about going with a SC300. Especially since it would cost a pretty penny to juice up the engine. What do you, the current owners/drivers, think? I also live in Charlotte, NC so if you happen to know of any for sale in the area I would greatly appreciate the recommendation. From the looks of your posts it sounds like I'm making the right decision of buying a Lexus. Sure wish I had done that prior to the $8,000 in repairs I put in the 740iL.

hmm, I'll be in Charlotte next month for about a week.

Anyhow, if you are looking for a car that you can really mod then I would say find a 92-97 SC300 5spd. If you are looking for a car to keep pretty much stock then I would go for the 92-97 SC400.

If you can drop a little more money go for the 98+ SC400 as it is more powerful for a stock car.

well the SC300 costs A LOT less to power up than an SC400..... I have a 95' SC400 and LOVE it! get a 95+ SC400 if you wanna keep it stock and have plenty of power! they get about the same gas mileage, look the same(obviously), SC400 doesnt have THAT much more power.... you can go 150mph. in an SC300(which is enough). Good luck! and welcome to the family.

Its ALOTTTTT cheaper to modify a SC300!! Just buy a stock 1JZGTE engine and drop it in. More power then a SC400, its unique, and its uber reliable, and still gets better mpg.

Just get an SC400 bro. If I had just gotten a 300 I'd regret it every day for the rest of my life.

I wouldnt mind having one as a 3rd daily driver I know where theres one forsale, 1993, for 2500, but it needs new interior. To each their own, but i wanted turbo power, i love the fuel miledge and potential for power. My base HP is greater then that of the late model SC400, and i'm stock unmodified.

I test drove a 400 and 300 and really couldnt tell a differance - except top speed i guess- but i chose the 300 for the potential it has to sup it up-
