I couldn't get much help on the electronics board so I'll post here. I've attached a JL 10IB4 sub to the mounting bracket (which has fasteners for the rear center brake light) from the stock sub but I'm hitting the gas tank when I set the sub in the hole. How thick of a spacer do I need? I'm concerned that the rear center brake light will not fit if the sub spacer raises the face of the subwoofer (and mounting braket) too high. Should I even be using the original mounting bracket?
Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,
I actually like the stock sub and I am not the biggest fan of the IB4. There is a limit to how good you can make a free air sub and the IB4 won't sound anything like a good 10W whatever in a sealed enclosure.
You need a good seal no matter what you do. Wheter it is a spacer or something else that you come up with.
I didn't mean to burst your bubble, but high Qts speakers (.60+) which free air speakers are, just don't make excellent subwoofers.

I think it will be fine for my listening tastes. In addition, I don't want a sealed enclosure taking up trunk space. I put the rear deck in to check sizing and it fits fine with the rear center brake light. I just need about a 3/4" spacer below the sub bracket to keep the magnet off the gas tank.

I also disagree. It's definately not a loud sub, but it's plenty louder than the stock sub.
You can make a spacer out of 3/4 MDF . I had to do the same thing to install a Kicker Freeair in the stock location. It sounds incredible as well. It's definately one of the best sounding SQ subs I've heard, and it blends great with the stock Nak system.

I heard an 12IB4 in an LS400 and it sounded pretty sweet. I need to replace my stock Pioneer free-air anyway because there's a slight tear in the surround. I'm going with a 10-inch if I can't fit a 12-inch in there. JL was my intial choice, but people are telling me the Kickers are nice too so I dunno. Oh yeah, I'm making my own baffle out of two 3/4-inch MDF boards stacked on top of each other or one 3/4-inch MDF boards lined on both sides with Dynamat Xtreme. This project is way down the road when I'm once again gainfully employeed .

i would take out the stock subwoofer and put the JL in a sealed box. I have that done in my Sc300 with a 10W3 and it hits hard but sounds real good, if you dont take out the stock sub it would sound or **** right because the whole trunk is enclosed is metal. Also remember to run the high low converter from the stock subs wiring so you can adjust it with the bass **** on the deck
