Default Need some advice on buying wrecked SC400 **Picture added**

I have found a wrecked SC400 for a cheap price. Its been in a wreck (hit a deer in the front bumper). here is what the guy said about the car. I have no pictures YET, he mailed some to me snail mail. Should have some by friday. Is it worth $2k? Keep that in mind when reading this description.

"well got 176k on it,motor not hurt, had every thing you had to do at certain milage, dosent need timing belt till 210k and tires are vr rated, gave 750 for tires,goodyear...its I`m color blind, but its a greenish gray with gray interior, moon roof,12 dics cd changer, every option you can put on one,it run after the deer got front, radiator is bent, condensor too,but still dose not leak, still was blowing cold air, when it happenened, but it quit running due to took lick on fuse box, which is on drivers fender, small crack in windshield were mirror was,my head got that,
for what I`m asking the tires and wheels worth almost that, got alloy wheels, motor is tough,no smoke,no leaks, car is tight, doors close like normal.clip can be straightened, wheels dont even look out....I got 9k in it,and its worth every penny I`m asking,it was going up in value, cause only so many made...I build race cars, but chevy, ford, dont know anything about a jap. car...........except it was a quick one........trans is hard hitting, rear end was perfect, just put all new brakes,4 wheel disc, sound system was loud,"

"yes fuse box took lick.just knocked some fuses out of it,cracked plastic box, but no digital camera, scanner got lightning,so got snail mail I can send you one,
need to get scanner,I sell alot of stuff on internet............
car ran fine for 5 min, when come up little hill some fuses must of popped out then it died................and no start with out fuses, and a jap man,I work on big trucks and that car is green to me...................."

My question, just from what you hear, would this car be worth $2k as it sits? Of course i'm not paying $2k for it but i would try and sell it for $2k. I think i could get my money back from it if i parted it out plus several hundred. Is it worth the trouble? What do the 400 motors go for etc.

Can't go wrong for 2k, you could part it out for that at minimum...

The sell by pieces is a tempting thought, but there are some drawbacks:
1. Your capital (sp?) is tied up.
2. Storage is an issue. [local codes + esthetics + garage space etc]
3. Disposal of carcass/left over
4. Some items are toxic [battery + gas tank etc]
5. Competition.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but just be aware.

The guy sent me a picture snail mail since he didn't have a digital camera or something. Picture sucks but it gets you a feeling of the car. I'm scheduling a time this weekend to go look at it and take a digital camera with me.

Is someone willing to pay $1700-$2k for this car as it sits? Motor and everything is in the car, just can't tell from the picture. I'm not sure i want to tackle parting it out but i may if nobody wants the car as it sits.

your better off parting it our yourself, most of the time no one will buy the entire car.

picture really doesn't say much but from there you need a bumper and fenders not sure how much that will run you but i would say look at in person and if you are abel to fix yourself and think you can get it running go for it but if you plan on paying for somebody to fix it and paying to get it running i think you r bertter off buying one that runs already casue you can get one for decent price around 5k but it all depends what your bugdet is good luck

I'm not looking to buy this car for like daily driver. I have a 92 SC300 already that i'm making a race car out of with a huge turbo and th350 setup.

Just came across this car, contemplating on buying it for a parts car or what not. I'm def not buying for myself to fix and keep. Should have stated that, thanks

i bought a good condition SC300 for $1200 a few months ago.. some other ppl got theirs for 2k.. look for something like that. IF its wrecked, i highly doubt the body will take 600+ hp without folding in half

as long as you don't mind going through the hassle(time and attention) of parting it out, then go for it.
