since my quest for a supra tt is not going well, I thought maybe I could start out with a sc300 5 speed. Do you know what it takes to add a turbo to the sc300? how reliable will it be? where can I get one with low mileage and in good condition...
thanks guys...

GS400,

I just got a 1995 sc300 with a manual transmission. I had to go to San Antonio to get a '95 model.

There are a few early year models floating around but getting anything from '95 to '97 is a bit tricky with '97 being the last year they offered the manual.

About two or three times a year one of the lexus dealerships in town will get one in. Most often you have to buy from a private seller.

Now when it comes to turbos there are two main turbo kits available for the car. The f-max and the toyomoto kit. The f-max kit was the first on the market for the inline 6 Lexus engines. Toyomoto came latter and is little more exspensive ($5500 street versus $4500 street for the fmax).

There are those who swear by the f-max kit and those that swear by the Toyomoto kit I personally think it mearly comes down to a matter of who can do a good install around town. The two major import shops I know of are Hocus Pocus and Car Boy. Each do good work but neither has done either kit.

Personally I am doing the waiting game. I really want to take a look at the Swift racing supercharger system and the L-tuned system (if it ever comes out) before making my decision. I don't like turbo lag so I would like to do supercharging if possible.

There is another guy around town that has a turbo installed. His forum name is VeilsideSc or something like that. I might hook-up with him If I get a chance.

I think the bottom line comes down to how much horsepower you want to make. I think you'll be able to get 350 HP at the wheels for about $6K when you factor in the turbo, labour and the cost for a new clutch. Anything more is going to have to be a lot more sophisticated.

email me at mrwigggles@yahoo.com.

Good luck finding a manual.

to start off with the f-max kit is a poorly made kit...the manifolds warp/.....crack and are not good..also the quality of piping is very poor on the f-max kit....most people end up buying a toyomoto cast manifold and making new piping......the toyomoto is top quallity,,i have had it on my car for 2 year with no problems....very high quality and looks like a factory install....with a stage 1 kit you should be able to hit around 300 rwhp....for like 7000 you can add a fuel pump...bigger turbo..additional injectors and aic ..and have a set up like scotts <sc300t> ..and he ran a 12.7 on street tires at 10psi on pump gas....thats a hell of a street car.....
as for a super charger....the car has ben out since 92...and no one has done a charger for it......i wonder why?....also the motor is of the same design as the supra tt..it was designed to handle the turbocharger...also with stock compression and 10psi of boost the car will spool up at like 2500 rpm...the lag is so minimal its not even worth talking about....and a centrifucal charger has a lag in boost also.....and the turbo will make more power than a charger......
Gs400....this car can be made just as fast as a supra tt...i have raced alot of supras....i tear up bpu supras and hang real well with big singles....i have beaten a few singles..and lost to a few...but theres nothing like have lexus luxuray and supra speed...as well as no one ever thinking your gonna beat them with a lexus....spanking mustangs...camaros...and vettes are some of the funest races...you wont regret it...Jeff

jeff, mr. wiggles thanks.
I will look around. I probably will be in the market for the sc 5 speed around December-February time frame. I have to get a truck soon.

$7 grand for 300 HP...hmmmm. ok I'll see what I can get the SC for when it's time.

I will probably be hanging out in this forum a lot more then

my main concern was the strength of the 5 speed, and it's ability to handle a major increase in HP.

for the 7 grand kit your looking at closer to 400 wheel hp...the 5spd is a good tranny for up to about 400 rwhp and rwtq reliably..i know of a car on a 5spd for 3 years nowwhile turboed with only a clutch needing to be replaced...over 400 rear wheel the 5spd takes a beating...but theres allways a getrag 6spd Jeff

wow that's not bad...
I would be happy with a 300 hp S/C just as a weekend car with a bit of extra punch...so the 5 speed should be fine for this setup? how much is this setup...I don't want to buy crappy parts...
thanks guys.

Sc3 Turbo,

2 questions,

1) how much money have you put into your car total?

2) Do you have the swiftracing torque convertor on your car, and if you dont then why not? I heard it takes like 1.1 secs off your quarter mile?
