Should I buy this 1992 sc400
Hey guys Im looking at buying a 1992 Lexus sc400. The car is dark green and the body is perfect. It only has 81k on it. The problem is the a/c is broken and the gas gauge is broken. She wants $8000 for it even with the air conditioning. The interior is also in very good shape. I've been looking for what are the things that go wrong. I tried searching but couldn't find too much. Could any of you guys please help me out and let me know what you think.
Thanks
Thanks

Gas gauge is around $150.00 from the dealer + installation which is 30 minutes or so if the problem is the gauge and not the sending unit which would be more. A/C is more $$$$$. From $100-$1000 depending on what is wrong.
Figure around $8500 for KBB for a 100% working car I think $6500-$7000 would be ballpark of what I would pay. No more.
Best of luck. Fun cars if you can find a decent one.

What are some things that will need replaced coming up with 81k. I think the timing belt will need to be replaced. What else should I expect as some maintance?
Thanks

PM Aliga. He can get you a far better car for almost half that price with everything that works. I hate green SC's personally. It could be the float in the tank or it could be the cluster itself. My boy Aliga can get you the A/C stuff as well. Bottom line, PM Aliga.

Too bad I'm all the way in Los Angeles
Yeah? So he can get me a SC400 that's "far better" than a perfect body, very good interior '92 SC400 that has only 81k on it, for four thou?
If so, where do I send the check?
And stockdx3, if you tried searching, you should have seen many threads that discuss what other maintenance items are coming up. Try again with keywords "scheduled maintenance" in the maintenance forum.

There is also a 1995 sc300 that is silver with Black leather and 81K also for $8700 but I would'nt offer more than $8000?
Also What size rims can fit without having to lower the car?
Thanks for the input guys

Personally, I would be certain of what exactly is wrong with the AC before I even think about buying this car. If it is something large like needing a new evap I would skip this car or buy is at something like $4500. That is just me though.
Things to start looking for at 80K miles are timing belt and water pump replacement. Leaking power steering pump. If power steering pump is leaking check the alternator. Power steering rack bushings. LCA bushings. Worn door hinges (Especially on the drivers side). Engine and transmission mounts. Fuel pump ECU might start to go bad around this time. dead cluster bulbs and needles. AC LCD control panel might start to die and start to go black.

1) Don't try to pick the biggest rim possible. Anything bigger than a 19" on a stock bodied '92-'96, IMO, will look very cheesy and ghetto.
2) You should always lower your car after adding new wheels if the total diameter is larger. If you don't, you'll end up looking like a 4x4 and we'll all laugh at you.
