Thats a good point there. But seriously, if I could have a 99 SC400 or an 06 Sc430, I think i would still take the SC400, even if the price was the same.

In my opinion, what Lexus should have done was to take the timeless design of the 2000 SC400/300, and widened it a little, lowered it a little, and shortened it a little, plus raise the rear deck a little. Would have been awesome. Then change the interior to what is in the SC430, put in a larger V8, perhaps a SC500 (5.0 Liter), and they would have had a slam dunk, knock out winner.
Oh well, I still pick the SC400...It is gorgeous, and since I am installing the 2000 update, it is most definitely not dated in anyway... Watch for a few custom one off's coming up on mine as well...

I owned a SC400 from day one. It was a wondeful car but the SC430 is so much nicer..

I'll be honest, it's a little tough for me to buy a new 60K car. But, I can afford a 2002 SC430 easily. So that takes away my bias. That being said, there is no way I would take an SC430 over any SC300/400...even a 92. The 430 is very stylish but there is nothing about it that fits my preferences, except that it's a coupe. It's the smallest big coupe I've ever seen. I tried again to sit in one this past weekend. I just don't know what Lexus was thinking with this car. WHo were they going after for a target buyer group? Definitely not the average sized male....which I believe is 6 foot. The interior is gorgeous but who cares if you aren't comfortable in there. Then there's the looks. Very stylish but looks like a bubble and not a sports coupe. No sleekness. I don't wanna ruffle anyones feathers but Lexus missed the boat on this car. No, I wouldn't own this car over the 300/400 for nothing...unless someone gave it to me. Then I'd just sell it and buy something else.

The height of an average male in America is 5 ft. 9.2 in., so it's probably a little shorter world wide : CLICK HERE
I'm 5 ft. 11 in., 180-195 lb.(post vacation weight ) and is very comfortable in the SC430 with plenty room to spare in every aspect.
OTOH, I feel a miata is too small for me

Having owned all SC400, SC300, and current SC430 there is no comparison. The looks of the old gen is timeless and look great lowered with nice wheels, but the two cannot be compared no more than the new SC430 vs a Bummer or Benzler product as they are completely different. Just because it replaced the older car does not mean they compete in any way as Lexus went another direction with the new Coupe.
Also I am 6' with more than average width and I easily fit nicely and very comfortably in the SC430 with plenty of play room. The exterior took some time for me and I still am not a big fan of stock looking SC430's just the same as I cannot stand stock SC300/400/GS430's. Lower it and put on some wheels and the entire car changes to an aggressive Coupe that garners attention like nothing else I have ever owned.

WOW, the results of this thread are very interesting. Remember guys, you can't use the argument that the technology or interior features in the SC430 are better. This is assuming that the SC400 had ALL the same technology features in and out.

I agree the 430 is a departure from the original and that's a shame. Every other new Lexus has evolved from it's predesessor. You can even see the cues from it's forebearer. Maybe the Lexus braintrust thinks the 430 is an evolved product....I just wish I could see it.

You cannot say that nobody can argue a point as I certainly do. The headlights on the car are fantastic IMO. Also I am not 6'2 nor 260lbs. More like 6" and 210lbs and I fit great with plenty of room even with the top up. Does not mean I disagree with you, just that it fits ME fine, does not fit you fine from what you stated. But then I cannot fit it some cars either so I never bought them. A little tight in Porsches but doable enough to be comfortable.
The older gen SC design is timeless yet still dated. Still I consider it one of the nicest looking cars ever made. Just a bit plain inside. I remember the day when people thought the SC300/400 were ugly. A 928 knockoff. Now that many of them can afford one, all of a sudden they think the car is nice looking.
Now a shortended version of the old gen with hardtop would be awesome. Best of both worlds.
BUT...Keep in mind one thing. I DONT WANT YOU PEOPLE TO LIKE THE SC430 STYLE!!!!! See too many old gens on the road with Gen 2 GS's as well. Blends in too much after a while. I would rather Lexus not sell too many SC430's to keep the exclusivity. Too bad sales say otherwise.
