There are several members who have upgraded to Black or Black Pearl emblems. Be wary though, members have complained that the Black Pearl emblems they've bought on eBay have had the finish peel and crack within a few months. If you do a search for "Black Emblems" in the SC section you should get some threads with pictures. I made my silvers black by sanding, priming, and spray painting. I love the way it looks, and hasn't peeled yet. When it does, I'll simply repaint it. Takes all of 20 minutes to do. My front emblem has holes under it but the emblem is stick on because the body shop that did my front end didn't do it right The earlier SC's (92-94 for sure, don't know about the 95-96) had holes behind all of the rear emblems, I'm not sure of the newer ones.

Default Plating on plastic

Plating on anything, much less plastic is a complex process. There are over 20 process steps to plate properly over plastic. Most of the smoke ones on ebay are done by hobby systems. I know the Caswell's and their products are ok, but it is for hobbiests only - not for long lasting professional applications.

Peter

The moral is buy OEM if you want the finish to last.

My car (97 sc300) came with the hideous "gold package"... so I took off all the emblems (the front L, rear L, LEXUS, SC and 300), primed them, painted them gloss black, and put a clearcoat as well. It's been about a month, and no peeling, cracking, fading or anything.

The front L, rear L, and rear LEXUS have holes behind them, but the SC and 300 didn't have holes behind them.

No one would ever use black emblems.

Depends on what year your SC is, mine is a 97 and had gold on back and the front L was new silver L been that way sense I got it never did find out why. So I changed the back to match the front and the back Lexus has pins, SC 300 is a sick on and the L has 3 pins, Be warned with stick ons its hard to get the alligned its an optical allusion thing and im pretty sure they align with the tail lights, im still not sure if my Lexus is straight on the back It was a stick on so if you can get pined get them there a lot easier.

Those all look like sticker emblems to me. Depending on what year your car is, you may have pegs / peg holes. Doesn't really matter tho. I swapped out my fading gold emblems for new shiny chrome ones, and all 4 of my emblems had pegs (95 SC400). And only two of the chrome emblems had pegs...two were just stickers...and these were authentic straigh-from-the-dealer emblems.

Like Blk97SC300 said, if you want black emblems, just pop yours off, and sand them, prime them, paint them, and clearcoat them. Not that hard to do...and I've seen quite a few done like this...looks pretty darn good IMO

Don't buy the ones on ebay. I matched the ebay ones with the real ones. Then proceeded to throw the ebay ones in the trash. Don't waste your money on cheap imitations.

I have all the emblems painted black on my sc300. My friend was about to paint a mercedes so I scuffed them a bit and just layed them out in the spray booth. It looks good on my car mainly because my car is a charcoal grey so everyone loves it.

Mine had the gold package (ugh, nasty!) for $40 I figured why not? After 2 years the L's are starting to peel. Thay are all stick on emblems but do not have the locator pins on the back (like factory emblems do) All my nameplates have holes too.
