Default What does the little switch on the front seat belts do?

So I'm in the middle of pulling the car apart to install my 8W7, and lots of sound dampening. I'm about to pull the seat belts when I notice theres a warning on them, and a little switch that does somthing. were talking about right where the roll up, underneath the back side pannels. Some sort of explosive that reels them in when you get in an accident? I would rather not have anything blow up in my face while I'm messing around with the car.

Unsure. Never saw anything when I took my belts out to do the same thing. Definately no "explosion" devise, that's for sure.

Should just be the one large bolt to take the whole assembly off. Just don't lose the washers!!

if it looks like a Co2 tube and has a yellow lever, it's to tighten up the belts in an accident...or so I was told...

These are found on newer SC's, not sure when, but the 97 I just took apart had them and I swapped them into my 92. The plug fits, but i'm not sure if it'll activate that feature...

as long as the battery is disconnected, there wont be any problems... we deal with these all the time at work with BMWs. its a belt tensioner as stated that tightens up the seat belt when your in an accident.

It looks like it shows the switch one way for taking them out, and another for putting them back in. Any idea if I need to mess with this, or just disconnect the battery?

So the seat belt guru's are here, lol. Sorry to highjack this but its sort of related enough not to start a new thread.

My seat belt tensioner is "lazy" as in it really does not want to take up the slack after I remove it. Is there a way to re-tension the take up mechanism ?

I believe the dealer will do this for free, but only if they are actually malfunctioning.

the 8's are pretty decent, especially for an 8. plus you can run it off of the 250/1 and still get some darn good bass out of it.
