Default Rear window replacement

I came home from vacation today to find a shattered rear window on my 93 SC400. Looks like a tree branch fell on it. Anyone every had one replaced? I called safelite and they quoted me about $1,000. That sounds outrageous to me. I'm waiting on more quotes but need to know what a "legitimate" price is. Thanks.

I had a passenger door window on my SC broken, safelite quoted me $500 for the repair, I had it done for $200 locally and the guy came out to my house. Just call around, most places have the same suppliers anyway, just find the cheapest place that you trust. Also if you have comprehensive insurance, its usually covered. Safelite is WAAYY too expensive.

Aligazi hooked me up with a good deal on both the rear window and the install and the car too.

Wow $1000 does seem pretty expensive. Your best bet is to just call around for those mobile window repair people that go to your house and replace them.

I had something similar happen to me this summer when I called to get quotes the price was between 800 to 1000. I couldn't believe it but I spoke to one the local glass guys and he said the reason it's so expensive is because Lexus won't allow any aftermarket manufactures to produce the rear glass so I bought used glass for about 400. No diffrence between new and used glass. Just make sure you inspect it before you have it installed

My deductible is $500....I'd rather not notify my insurance company if I can get it replaced for less than $500. They will probably raise my rates even if I just mention it to them w/o filing a claim.

FYI....The best deal I could get was from a junkyard for $400. Sounds a lot better than the 800-1000 quotes I've been getting. It'll cost another $70 for an installer and $70 for the weather stripping.

I think it may have something to do with the rear window defroster. That stuff is not cheap.
