Wet sanded + buffed my headlights
Warning: Do Not Wet Sand Unless You Own a Buffer, the Results Will be Cloudy Headlights - Look at My 3rd Picture and You will See the Effects of "Wet Sanding"
Process:
- 2000 grit wet sand (I dont suggest anything less then 1500) - Wet sanding is to take out the cracks and some of the yellowing on the outside layer, it will leave a cloudy haze over your headlight (it scratches it very badly). Therefore you must buffer the small scratches left behind by the sand paper out with an electric buffer. Please do not wet sand if you are unsure because you can be left behind with worse results then you started with.
- Electric buffer w/ heavy cutting compound
- Buffer with mild compound
The buffer really makes the work easy and probably better then any job you could do by hand. You just cant compare 2500rpms to 50rpms.
I started by buffing the headlights and then decided to try to wet sand the cracks out. Almost all the cracks came out....the only ones that didnt come out are on the inside of the lense and appear to be caused by heat from the headlight/projector. Almost all yellowing is gone and the headlights are better then most newer models. These were supposedly 96 headlights but I had 92-94 tails (due to a wreck), so Im really not sure what year the headlights are off of.
