Anyone know if the digital clusters have multiple issues as our USDM needles do? I'd hate to put in the extra work only to have some form of malfunction a few months later.

My RPM needle is on it's way out, and I miss the digital gauges I had on my S2000. This would be pretty cool.

Just to give you all an update, I'm still taking pictures and currently putting my interior back together, so I'm about 90% done and once there I'll post everything all at once. I just ran into a slight problem this weekend which delayed me finishing everything. I could not remove the drivers seat because I had forgotten to move it to a point that would make all the bolts accessible before ripping out the wiring of the car and replacing with Soarer 2.5gt-t wiring plus the soarer had power seats on one side and my sc400 has on 2 sides so took me a while to figure that out...lol . Anyway I was able to get around it, thanks for being patient.

Yea the digital cluster is way better in my opinion, I've rebuilt several analog dashes and fixed sticky needles, changed caps in them etc, they are too problematic, the digitals have there own problems with blinky dashes but when it comes to repairs are not as complicated as the analog.

First off you are going to need 95% of the wiring from a soarer 2.5gt-t. Parts needed to make this work:

-engine harness
-dash harness (attached to the dashboard)
-fuse box in the engine bay
-the fuse box in the car and ofcourse the digital cluster itself.
-Fuel pickup unit (located on the gas tank and is accessible from in the trunk)

I started my swap off with a 1jgte originally from a Supra, the harness was wrong and computer as well, it would be too much work to make it work in my Sc400 which in itself makes it a lot more difficult because as you all know, lots of things won't work. I sold the supra engine harness and ecu and decided to get in contact with a well known Soarer specialist named Steve Smith from great Britain, he deals only with Toyota Soarers from what I know, scraps them and has all the parts at a reasonable price. I figured since it was going to cost me approximately $600-$700 to pay an electrician to wire my 1jzgte motor to my sc400 body, I was better off getting the complete wiring from the soarer the digitial cluster and doing everything myself for the same price, since essentially all I was doing was getting wires extending them and just plugging them in.'

In terms of wiring, it's all about extending the wires and making what was really for a RHD vehicle fit in a left hand drive so most of the stiff plastic casings around the harnesses which braced the wires to the body had to be removed which was no big deal, this would give you extra length and allow for the wires to fit properly in LHD vehicle.

As soon as I extended wires push them through the firewall and the other compartment behind the fender guards, everything pretty much plugs right in. As of now I have not extended the dash harness connected to the dash and it is not necessary, however the wires from the interior fuse box have to be extended from basically the driver side all the way to the passenger side for obvious reasons.

The Sc400 ABS ecu does not work, the ecu seems to be different from the abs ecu that came from the Soarer, I no longer have traction control, this does not have to be the case for you as it depends on what motor/transmission you buy and so on.

The fuel pickup is pretty straight forward although there are different type of fuel pickups for different year soarers with 2.5gt, just like the digital clusters are different physically from year to year. the setup I have is from a 1991 Toyota soarer I gather because the cluster is a little basic, mine does not have the temperature reading, that system that tells you it's checking everything etc etc, but it all depends on you and if you like the newere soarer cluster be sure to get all wiring and the pickup unit from the same car, you will save yourself the headache. My setup goes with my body sc400 infact the pickup unit is not the tube type setup, it is basically identical to the sc400 pickup unit with the exception of 1 or 2 wires.

I'm discovering lately that it is not every single piece of wiring that you will need from the soarer, I got the roof wiring etc etc, not needed though. you don't need the power window / door lock wiring either because pretty much all your sc300 / sc400 wiring will plug right up into the soarer harness, you just need to extend the wires. 'm trying to keep one of my harness which connects the power seats to the interior fuse box as some of the soarers only came with power seats on one side so I'm working to see how I can get that to work but I imagine it shouldn't be too hard and should be similar to the telescopic steering wheel which you have to rewire to another power source since most of the soarers didn't have it.
For now that's all I can think of, sorry about the quality, I will post better ones, I thought of putting this online when I was pretty much done extending wires.

NLC, to answer your question, yes I am replacing most of the wiring with soarer's especially since I have a 1jz swap which soarer harness.

Image021.jpg - is all the wires I got from a soarer, engine, harness, fuse boxes, dash harness, roof harness, and remainder wiring from in the vehicle which goes all the way back the the tail lights, it's all there.

the picture with the box of wires is all the wires before shipping it off to me from GB, it was quite heavy.

the picture with both pickup units, the blue top is from the Soarer and the other was originally from my sc400, as you can see they are very similar, but not quite the same.
