Default Anyone have problems losing their 97+ fog lights?

This is weird. I guess I seem to keep losing my fog lights or something. The first time was when i hit a tire on the road on the passenger side, it knocked the fog light out by snapping it's rear support and side supports.

This time, the same thing happened... I hit a skunk on the freeway on the driver side and I just noticed today that my driver side fog light is gone. Same exact type of damage! The rear screw and the side screw snapped.

Is it poor quality by toyota? Those screw on points seem to be extremely flimsy? Anyone else have this problem?

Mine are screwed in pretty tight. I can't imagine one popping out.

I know what you mean Geoff, the parts car I have has a broken passenger fog. It snapped off the same areas you're talking about. They do look every flimsy, but if you have it plugged in, the harness should keep it from flying out...

Reggie, I don't think the 95-96 fogs are as flimsy as the 97+..

My friend has the same problem. He lost 2 of his and I thought maybe it was his kit (He has the JIC) Maybe you can't tighten it tight enough on fiberglass than on the OEM plastic.

Are you using both mouting screws? The back one and the side one?

i was driving here in ny when my passenger side fog fell out, i heard something dragging for a little while (about 3 seconds) until i noticed it was my fog light and it was being held on to by the harness, i started slowing down and then the harness came out and i ran over the fog light.. i still have my driver side fog light but i took it out temporarily until my passenger one comes in.

i got some plastic epoxy and slathered it on those spots today after seeing this thread. Hope mine dont break. They better not now. Did it rip up your harness at all when you lost them?

Not at all actually. The harness seems to be well intact, which boggles my mind to tell the truth.

I was looking closely at the areas where the pieces broke and compared it to the passenger fog light. That plastic piece seems rather poorly placed structurally. The body of the fog light is barely attached to the mounting points. I guess Toyota was fairly certain that they were not going to have this kind of problem.

I noticed the potential to lose them when I first installed them and identified weak points as I was putting them in. To err on the side of caution, I decided to go with a little blue loctite and it worked marvelous.

Unless I am mistaken though, you are showing me a picture with an impact spot directly to the right and slightly low of where the fog is, I see a rub mark from impact, is it not?
