Hi
Have a 97SC400, the ash tray below the dash has problems.
The ash tray LID does not open any more than around 1.5 inches. Opens at an angle and I can barely pull out the cigarette lighter straight out.
How do I fix this without breaking the lid.
Is there a diagram I can refer to so that I can understand where it may be hanging up?

I realize this is no life or death issue, but perhaps someone else has had this problem.

Go ahead and remove the entire trim assembly. The part that surrounds the stereo and sweeps down where the gear shifter is. That removes and the ash tray comes with it. Might just be a simple obstruction. Also, there is a black foam strip on the bottom of the stereo, this could interfere possibly.

 

Did some one spill cola or something?

One has to pull the ceter console. Non inrusive way would be to use non-stainting cleaner spray arounf pivot points and the catch.
