Default I love this site!!!

Just wanted to say how much this site, and everyone on it has helped me!!!
(I've been reading the threads for the last four months and this is my first post!)
My local Lexus dealer service guys knows only half of what you guys know!!!
I trust what I read here, before what I'm told there!!!

I bought a 97' SC300 last fall, It was stored in a heated garage for the last 4 years.
I'm the second owner. The owner before only drove it when he took his wife out.
He was in his 60's. This car had never been over 100mph till I got it.
Original tires, wires, plugs, everything!!!
I changed the oil, and dropped a K&N in.

Now, my question for you all...

~If the car sat for so long, what can I expect as far as things to replace?~
~I plan on driving the thing, and if I need to get parts to make it perfect. What are the parts?~

I picked up NGK R's and a new Serp-belt, Doing those this weekend. What should be my next move.

Any help is much obliged, I want to try and stay away from the Lex Dealerships!!!

Nor are they enthused about a discontinued car they cannot sell you. Found that out the hard way.

Welcome to the site, good to have you around.

Sounds kinda like my case but with an SC400 bought it off of a trophy wife that had only driven it on nice days and said the only things she had ever put in the trunk were Nordstrom bags I got the car this last summer and it had 92k on it, all the sched service on record, original window sticker, MINT condition! always used synthetic oil and premium gas. Good luck with this one! sounds like a great car, get pics sometime soon as well!

Agreed on replacing all the fluids... The Lexus likes fresh fluids !

That's oil, coolant, transmission, steering, rear differential and brake fluid. Standard Toyota fluids is best for starters. There is debate about the K&N air filter over the stock paper. The K&N is known to migrate is oil to the MAF (mass air flow) sensor, just downstream of the air filter box. But, the oil filter by K&N is one of the best. Toyota stock oil filter is also very good. I purchase supply parts at Toyota rather than Lexus dealer... same parts, except for some brake and steering..
Insure your lug nuts are tightened to 76 Ft Lbs, tighter tends to warp the rotors.

You didn't mention your mileage. Check your owners manual for recommended services at 15K intervals. The 30K, 60K, 90K, 120K are your main service triggers.

Welcome !

Default I love this site

Sorry about not getting pics up.

Will have them in a few days. We've got some crappy weather here in Chicago.

As for what the car is...

1997 SC300 Black
Tan/Black interior
Second cup holder busted off, but my cell fits perfectly in the slot (Twas meant to be!!!)
Just turned over 45,000 miles, Like I said, the guy never drove it. Original GT+4s (do they even make those anymore?)

True, true on the K&N, I did not notice a difference. For giggles I may grab a TRD paper filter and see what happens.
Now do I really need to do my rear-end fluid??? I mean Its not like this guy was doing donuts at the local Burgerking.

Oil, Coolant, New headlight bulbs (silverstars) yea that stuff was done.

Oh funny thing bout the local Toyota dealership...the service guy wouldn't touch it, and in fact was a *$$&ing jeeeerkkkk about it being a Lexus...I know its close to the Supra. He said as long as it has a "L" on the front, they wont touch it....so I went down the road to the Speedy Lube.

As always thanks for the input, Yes I know to search first, or have my car removed from me!!!

A 97 model and it's black... sounds familiar

And about the Toyota dealership experience don't worry I get that from both Toyota and Lexus... where's the love

Toyota/Lexus are merged together in Chattanooga. You have to go to the "uni-lot" to shop for either car and if you want parts or service, it's one department.

I just had that problem for purchasing parts on my SC400 via Toyota dealership. He basically said the only thing he can help me with is parts that fit both SC & Supra..I asked about trans mount & oil filter, spark plug wires, cap, & rotor...he said those items have to go through Lexus....

So off to Sewell or Carson I go. I really was hoping to go local for this stuff, but UPS works fine. I'll go to him (Curt @ Elmhurst Toyota) for LCA, etc.. that are common.

Yeah...shoot your info to the Chicago forum.
