Default New here, and have some questions

Hi Everyone,

I will be on the market soon for either an Sc300 or Sc400. I have been lurking around the lexus forums trying to find out more about these cars. I have always liked the styling of the SC series. I stopped by some local dealers that have the SC cars in stock and was just looking at them. I am having difficutly deciding which car to get. Are there any differences between the two cars besides the drivetrains? The cars seem identical as far as the interior and overall deminsions. With the hoods shut and no emblems can you tell the 400 from the 300?

I was leaning toward the Sc400 but from what I have gathered so far the SC300 has more performance potential with the turbo kits and motor swaps available. How much power can the 2JZ-GE hold? Does the 2JZ-GE in the 300 share the same forged bottom end as the 2JZ-GTE in the Supra? How much does the typical 2JZ-GTE cost?

That should do it for now. But I am sure I will have more questions later.

Thanks in advance,
Jason

Welcome!

I'd suggest searching this site for answers, there's LOT'S of stuff here on what you're looking for. As far as which is "better"...yes with the SC300 you can mod it cheaper than the V8, but if you leave it relatively stock the V8 will make you happy

I did search here but didn't really find out too much about the differences between the two cars. Is there a specification page here? I found one on line with the differences between the Sc400 model years but was unable to find one with specs on the Sc300.

Power is a partial concern after having a couple of 500hp cars, but I now want a bit of luxury to go along with the power. I assume that theSc300 would be easier to get to the 500hp mark.

Welcome!!

If you get a sc300, try looking for one with a maual transmission. I've owned both and the sc300 (with maual) feels as fast and powerful as the sc400. The auto sc300 seemed a bit sluggish when I test drove one.

You'll be happy with either one. Best of luck!

go here: http://www.intellexual.net/faq.html#01 for comparing 300 to 400.

Generally what you'll find is many people have upgraded the SC300 into turbo monsters here's the fastest one currently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXnwVl5Q0C0&search=Lexus

But you will find some who have over 500HP on their SC400 (rdm20fan has one, lextreme I think does too), but the v8 is definitely more $$$$

I want to try to get a comfortable 450rwhp out of the car. Is the 2JZ-GE capable of that? Or will a motor swap be a better choice?

My 2000 SC 300 auto does not feel sluggish compared to my 93 SC 400. In fact it would easily whomp it. At least for now...

Unfortunatly my wife keeps taking the 400, leaving me with her Durango... yuck! Since we don't want to run up miles on the 00.

Geez, I need another SC for a daily....

Get either one, it is hard to not love these cars. Put the 400 on the bottle if you need more cheap oomph.

The auto SC300 are slugs out of the box. But if you want something to fly with some mods, the six (300) is the way to go.

If you find a 97' with a five spd, buy it!!! or someone on here will, and tell everyone what a deal they got on their new 97' 5spd and then your there like....awww I could have had that!!!!
