stock they produce almost the same numbers between the two in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times with 10+ mpg better AND they are inline 4's not v4's. Im not saying the sc isnt a good car but a lot of these comparisons are about as good as a fart in church. being a tech at lexus i can say with confidence that stock for stock most of these cars will out perform the sc hands down

The early 1UZ motors were over rated for power. I'm thinking they were closer to 220 than 250. They also only put down 170-190 RWHP stock. The Z makes 287 HP, correct? Something like that.

But we're talking about stock 1UZs, not 1JZs.

If a early SC400 only puts down 170-190RWHP, thats exactly the same as the SC300 LOL

Instead of racing stop light to stop light , which the sc isnt made for...

challenge them to a 500 mile run followed by a two hour meeting about closing a business deal worth $$$ to you, which the sc will do, and keep you fresh as a young Turk doin' it.
You'll be fresh, the driver of the (insert marque here) will be tired, toasted.

The car is a mile eater, so use it to its advantage.
Jackie Stewart taught the mantra "smooth beats fast". Hmmm, worked for him.
You're still racing point A to Point B. It's just that B is 500 miles out.

I Think I'll run over to Arizona for a burger.

Like I said, over rated and the stock exhaust is extremely restrictive. A simple intake an exhaust will (from what I've seen posted) really wake the car up.

Some people have said that they felt no difference in power between the 300 and 400 until the '98 model years rolled around.

I felt it on the lower end......the 300's need the RPMs to get it going. the 400's got the lovely V8 torque on the bottom end.....

On the highway, I think the 300 accelerates faster from 60 mph on up.

Well it felt that way to me anyway.

We need to get a 1997 sc400 and 1997 sc300 for a "myth-busters" style road test.
do off the line....45mph up and 65mph and up.

I volunteer my 97 stock sc300 in chicago land.....we need a stock sc400 now....

yeah defn not at metro, im from columbus. your comment has already established your credibility lexluv, "very quickly from 60-145 mpg" doesnt mean anything if your comparing cars...its all numbers that make a comparison. and yes a stock b16 del sol model (mine ran a 14.6 stock) will walk an sc. my posts speak for themselves so Ill quit now since i talk out of my as$...

At 35 MPH my Vette will pull to 70 in under 2 seconds. The SC literally never get's a chance to downshift. I'm taking my video camera in the next few days when I go to meet her and eat after she get's off work.

Put it in 2 before you try man... at least be fair...

Seriously the SC has the same performance of say a peppy 4 na cylinder sedan of today. Drag racing an auto sc300 is like running with your feet tied.

Im betting 1,000 dollars that my stock put together sohc 140 hp 240sx will get a faster ET then the auto SC300...

I'll take that bet!!!

What are we talking "auto" to "auto" or Auto SC to 5spd 240sohc. it doesn't matter

I've had both single and dual cam 240's....There is no-way a stock sohc 240sx will pull from me. Sure you may get me by 1/16th of a car length off the line. But after around 50-60 I'm going by you drinking coffee, talking on the phone!
Stock 240sxSE 5spd DOHC.....125-130 mph tops!!! on a perfect, cool, low humidity day with a tiny "chick" driving and a lot of road.....like Bonneville salt flats lot-a-road

I had to drop in a modded SR20 Red top to get it to move. And even then, a redneck mullet head in a SS Camaro or Cobra would smack me down.
