How am i Hating? Telling the cold hard truth is not hating. You can register a toyota soarer brought over as parts and re-assembled as a car all you want in the state of fl as a KIT car. That does NOT make it legal to drive. It's not a kit car. Its from an OEM with a VIN #. Its VIN # states that it is not an importable "CAR" in the US borders for use on public roads.
If a DOT agent catches that car on pubic roads, it will be impounded indefinatly and crushed like in cali.
If a Toyota Soarer was 100% legal for importation, i would buy one cause they are dirt cheap. But, they are not. Toyota Soarer PARTS are legal, the car as a whole is not. There are major legal consiquences for driving such a car on public roads if you are caught.
Please people, get your facts straight. Just because you can do something or use loopholes does not make it legal. Do it all you want tho, dont drop the soap.

It states in the document posted that the car is not legal. Basic reading skills.
The Soarer can be shipped to the USA as PARTS never to be used as a car. Toyota did not make the soarer to fit US standards, and thats why its not allowed on public roads. If you import a Toyota Soarer as a whole car, it will never make it past customs. People instead take the car apart as "parts" and then here in the states, they reassemble the parts to make the car. The car is not legal for road use. It never will be. Just because you can title it, does not make it legal. The car again for the 10000th time, is NOT on the NHTSA list of importable CARS for use on public roads.

It's not on there. You'll be able to legally drive a 1991 Toyota Soarer in the year 2016. Sorry. k thx bye. /end of discussion.

first thing on the list of acceptable importable cars........
Import
Eligibility
(a) All passenger cars less than 25 years old that were manufactured before September 1, 1989; NHTSA-2002 12937 96-114
(b) All passenger cars manufactured on or after September 1, 1989, and before September 1, 1996, that, as originally manufactured, are equipped with an automatic restraint system that complies with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208;
thats pretty cut and dry... the following list states OTHER vehicles... not "only"
to speak of basic reading skills and leave out major details as such is just plain blasphemy!

"automatic restraint system that complies with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208;"
The Toyota Soarer is not a tested US car. Thats why we have the Lexus SC300. It does not matter if it uses the same system or not. In the eyes of the NTHSA, they are two totally different cars.
Because it is titled as a "Kit Car". Its a Toyota Soarer "kit car" and thats the kit cars VIN (u can make anything a vin # as long as its unique for a kit car), and get it insured as a "Toyota Soarer" kit car with that as the VIN. Its called a Loop-hole pal, welcome to FL. This state will register anything.
Just because its registered, titled, and insured your still forgetting the whole brought over as parts, assembled as a working car, does not comply to any US safety or EPA standards, and then lying to the FL DOT that its a kit car, when in fact its a non-standard car.

Mod's close this thread for false information. The Toyota Soarer is not on the NHTSA list of importable CARS. You can import the PARTS all day long. You can NOT import the Parts and make a working CAR out of it, then Register it and drive it!!! If someone has a Soarer in FL and they want to be made example of, ill be more then glad to watch them get their car crushed by the DOT. All i need is a plate # and address.

Rick do you want me to get in and explain this, one the car isnt titled as a kit car and Fl doesnt have a KIT CAR title they. Before you can even title the car the FL DMV has to inspect any cars that is from overseas .so there is no under the table stuff going on or nothing.these DMV inpectors knows about grey market cars and know about cars from over seas if it was illegal they will not title the car all they will say is NO you can not title the car.
and all the stories of cars being crushed you want to know where and how,its at the ports.the dumb asses that think they can import a car as a whole and clear customs,WRONG!!! so this is what happens they import the car it gets to port and customs wont release,is they are nice they will tell you to export it.I bet the owner of the car doesnt have anywhere to export it so so after 15 days the car goes G.O (government order) meaning customs takes the car and stores it in there warehouse where it collect storage charges.after a given time they will auction the car off which it has to be exported,if it doesnt sell at auction they will then crush the car.

NHTSA is not responsible for regulating the operation of motor vehicles on public roads in the U.S. or for titling or registering motor vehicles for such operation. That is instead the responsibility of the individual States.
when you bring the car to DMV for titling the car has to be inspected by them

But then again why pay $15k for a car that has less features and comfort then a swapped sc300 with a 1jz that could cost u around 4k total and risk the chance of your car being impounded.
