Default So I bought a SC300 Sunday.. wow

Been looking for months to replace my beater I bought two years ago. I was looking for a mustang GT but everything I found in my price range was crapola. How hard is it to tell someone on the phone that their car has a oil fountain, powered by the engine, that tries to replace the oil back into the earth? I could tell you some real horror stories of the cars I have went to look at. The best was one sitting on the ground with no tires the guy swears were stolen the night before.. it goes on.. Then looking on craigslist and seeing a SC300 at a unholy price (I won't make you cry by telling you the price). I knew NOTHING about lexus except they had a nice body style and a great comfortable ride.

Going on the second day and I can't seem to find enough reasons to drive it. Even got a im from a mustang I had wanted who lowered his asking price to my offer. Not a second of regret and actually chuckled to myself as I replied I had already found another car. I'm hooked and so is my wife.
-The good.
Dealer maintained and elderly cared for. 170,XXX miles and purs like a kitten.
Everything works and is in place from the owners manual in the box to every single plastic pushpin.
-The bad
Needs a paint job which will be done in the next two months. I should hold a vote to see what color to paint her.
The speedo needle is out. Just talked to MrO the lighting guru about fixing that.
Climate control is half covered by black death. Figure I can save this till last. It's still readable for the most part.
The leather seats are worn. Just going to have them redone here localy as one of the last things I do.

Congrats on the new--to-you SC. You're gonna love how this car holds up over the years.

Let's see some pix.

Talking Welcome

Welcome to the Lexus Owners club. I promise that each day you will find something else that you really like about your SC. I have owned mine for a year now and my poor Acura CL just sits in the garage. I like the Acura, but it is just not an SC.
You may have troubles with the audio system, but if you do, search these forums. Nearly any audio problem that you might run into has been addressed in these forums. They saved me a lot of anguish.
Now, a color for your car. Mine is the red garnet - nearly maroon. I like it but all of the colors that you see are really super.

Enjoy your SC

Thanks!

First car I have bought since my chevelle that I was actually very happy over. My previous cars include:
69 Chevelle I owned before I knew anything. Kicking myself for letting her go 13 years ago.
91 talon, which I built from the ground up.
90 Camaro V-8 transplant
02 Z-28 which I was never so happy to trade in for my current 03 2500 GMC
A long list of sub 1k "beater cars" I put just enough work in to keep them on the road. At the moment I have a 93 Tracer which in two years has had 1 oil change in 9k miles and 1 brake caliper replaced. I did add a $45 dollar AutoZone special CD player to it
I take great care in the cars I love without a second look at the cars which are just transportation. I just have that sinking feeling that this car will be in the family when it is deemed a "classic"

Its a 96, not a 92 so probably a bit more even though the paint is in rough shape. Idk, high mileage too though.

Thanks for all the warm and fuzzies Going to get her back to pristine condition before I even think about modding. I didn't know anything about these cars prior to purchase. I drove roughly the same year model a long time ago. It was a very smooth ride with couch like feeling seats and my main reason for this purchase. It also has some nice pep unlike your normal six cylinder cars with more seat adjustments then you could ever get tired of playing with

I'm still in the homework stage of ownership. I had my talon for almost a year before I took it down to the frame and rebuilt it. The camaro transplant was sooner but it was back when I was a teen still learning what was what. Great learning experience but with the normal "I know mostly what I am doing results." This car seems to rank right behind the chevelle as my all time favorite so I want to do it right. That will include a motor/tranny rebuild since it already has 170k miles.

All in all it will take some time but I have been learning some patience in my last few years. I did say still learning
