SC4 Driver Side Window
#1
Hi all,
During my drive to work this morning, I tried to close the driver and suddenly I hear a plastic/metal break sound coming out of the panel. So I tried to close the window but to no avail. I can still lower the window, but if I try to close it, it gives me the motor humming sound for about 2 seconds and the motor humming sound will stop.
Please help.
THanks
Jack

Hey whats up dude, sounds like something on the windows track is causing it to bind up. For now you should try and pull the window up by hand while pushing the switch to raise the window. If the window still doesn't want to pull up your going to have to open up the door panel and make sure that the window is not binding up. PULLING UP ON THE WINDOW WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM! It is just a temporary solution until you can have a mechanic look at it. If you decide to take the door panel off yourself look at the tracks that the window slides in (look around if anything is loose or broken) and look at the where the window connects to the power window regulator. If this sounds like to much of a hassle to you just bring it to a shop to have them fix it. If you do it your self, write another post telling any thing you found.

this is slightly off topic but concerns the doors on the SC 400.
i noticed on my door once you open it out to the first notch, then as you open it out to the max open position you can feel the door vibrating very slightly as if there were some minature grooves on the hinge somewhere, i was wondering if everyone else gets that feeling. it's not super noticeable but just making sure my door hinge isn't going bad or something....
any comments?

Driver Side Window
Thanks for the replies guys.
I think it should be the regulator that is having problem cause I can difinitely lower the window. Just can't close. If it was the motor, it should not allow me to lower, right? Anyway, question to DAVIDDP, how difficult is it to replace that regulator? Are we talking about 3 hours of work?
Please give me some tip if you can?
Thanks
Jack

Hi Jack,
It is one of those situations where if I had some experience replacing the regulator, it probably wouldn't be too lengthy, but because of my inexperience, it took longer.
I spent a couple of hours just taking the door panel off and trying to "figure out" how the window mechanism worked and removed the regulator. I ordered the part and waited for it to arrive, then spent another 2 hours installing it and replacing the door panel.
The only tip I could give you is to push the window all the way up to remove and install the regulator.
My boss had one replaced recently by a garage and paid around $225 for the job. I spent $65 and about 4 hours of my time. So in retrospect, if you are concerned about money, do it yourself. If you don't have time or don't want the hassle, pay someone. I hope this helps some. Good luck.
David.

I agree on the manuals. However, buy them from lexusparts.com for $95 for both manuals. Only problem is that they are for the auto and I have a stick. I remember a thread mentioning a $5 clip in the window that likes to break. Trick is that its the same clip for a Camry. Dont remember how long ago though.
