I've had my 300 for almost 4 months, still get excited every time I see it. Other than changing the oil and fixing the headlights, it's been nothing but a joy. My other car is my '85 Grand National that hasn't run in....... almost 2 years, but I'm getting close (damn thing steals money out of my wallet, I swear). I'm going to get the timing belt changed some time this summer and mess around with it a little to see what I can do to get the mpg up (apart from keeping my foot out of the gas!). So far, so good though!
On a side note, my friends dad (who hates jap cars and loves his BMW and Porsche) really likes to drive it as well.

Which getss bettter mileage? I've heard nice things about 1jzgte getting around 22-24mpg combined and 1uzfe getting only 16-20mpg combined. What about 2jzgte? I'm not realyl that into fuel mileage since I can afford it but 24mpg is damn nice and basically what my camry gets.

both 1JZGTE and 2JZGTE easily get 20+ mpg. Even better if your single turbo and never hit boost. My buddy's supra that has 678rwhp gets 24-25mpg no prob.

The sc is my daily driver but hoping to et something else soon. My wife drives the 99 es300. She also wants another car. The platinumsc has 62k miles and I've had it over 5 years. The a/c needed to be repaired in the second year I had it but since it was a warranty repair, I'm not sweating it. Everything else I consider age or maintenance related. Starter, tranny mounts, replacing of seals, distributor o-ring. Radiator was replaced but it was cracked by the technician who changed the coolant fluid. Timing belt, spark plugs, tranny fluid, differential fluid...all maintenance issues but expensive when done by the dealer. At least I have a nearly new car again.
Forgot, the cd changer is the worst piece of crap I have ever seen for a car costing over 40k when new. Even chevy uses a cd player that works.

Greatest car on earth for the money is the early model sc's!!!.... No problems what so ever to report, super reliable, painfully slow at stock with the stock torque converter and other then the needles fading out in the cluster and the blackening of the climate control LCD screen, this car is super....and is now fast too...Best of both worlds for me.....Luxury and performance....Stereo is nice, speakers are positioned in just the right position as well... The old Nakamichi system in the 92 SC will still out perform 95% of all the new cars out their today...Best of all the motor is a tank of a motor...tranny is not bad either, practically unbreakable car under stock conditions...300,000 miles easily if properly maintained.. GO LEXUS!!!!!!
Jewtheist - open up your intake and exhaust and you will notice even better gas mileage and the way gas prices are going up of late that is a key point... Get a piggyback ECU and you will again suffer at the pumps.. With performance comes great sacrafice....

6 months so far on my 1JZGTE. Replaced waterpump, timing belt, plugs, and powersteering pump. Waterpump/tbelt should have been switched before i swapped in, and the PS pump went due to a broken silicone vacuum line (now braided rubber). Sparkplugs i change with every oil change.
A 1JZGTE is easier to maintain then a 2JZGE by FAR

I understand the s pump leak is a common problem. Whered you get the braided lines from?
also, how is a 1jzgte easier to care for than a 2jzge? they are same block and accept the same accessories dont they? How bout a 1jzgte v.s. a 2jzgte?
