The owner of the shop that tinted both my previous and current LS400 told me that he normally does not tint the glass behind a high mounted brake light.

But the owner of the shop that tinted our Camry last year said that he always tints the glass behind the high mounted brake light. It wasn't an issue on the Camry since the 3rd brake light is in the trunk mounted spoiler.

Personally I like the glass behind the brake light being clear so people behind me can better see it.

Perhaps Hain could spray paint the inside of the brake light housing flat-black so it is not as noticable.

Attached is how the high mounted brake light on my 00 LS looks.

Go back and get that area tinted. I think it looks better covered. Mine is covered. When the light comes on, it is clearly seen through the tint, so don't worry about that.

I think it looks better completely tinted as well. If that's not an option, painting the housing black
is not a bad idea.

when i had my rear window tinted, the guy just cut around the rear brake light too and i think it looks fine the way it is. however if u want it redone, be careful that he doesn't remove the existing tint carelessly and damage your defrosting strips.

Its all personal preference. I took my light out for them, and it tokk all of about 30 sec. To me, it looks way better w/ no cut outs. Look like they didnt give you a strip, at all.

Heres my rear and sides:

And front:

Some states (NC) do not allow the CHMSL to be covered by tint. Oregon does allow it. These are the only 2 states I can comment on, but that may be a ligit reason they did not.

You should tell them to redo it and tint the hole thing. It looks so much better that way. But if theres no way they will redo it then just live and learn. And not to get to far off topic but na4now that is a sexy lawn(so green). Good luck

I got my windows tinted recently as well, $145 for all the windows except the front of course. Went with 6% all around. They tinted the rear brake light as well don't have a good shot of it right now, but I like it much better than just that one spot being un-tinted. So personally I would have them fix it.
Heres a side shot...

without tint for comparison

There is no liability on the part of the tint shop. As long as they make you aware of the legal restrictions of the state, they are free of liability. After that, they can do whatever and its not their problem. How else are people getting 10% tints, that % is not allowable in ANY state, yet tint shops tint that dark all the time. If they didn't tint the HMBL then it's probably their own preference not to try and remove the light even though it takes 30 seconds to pull the cover off and disconnect the harness.

personally, I'd paint the inside of the light housing black (except the red lens obviously) and then you get the best of all worlds - it won't stick out, and the light will work and be bright....

the spray on in front actually looks good to me.... imo it's better than the tint, i like that fade out...

but on the back windshield: the tint man i know, just takes out the brake light, then tints the whole thing.... it's supposedly easier for him

good luck

are you sure they did something to the front?

I love having tinted windows I even did the whole windshield to cut down on glare, it's so nice!

Rears are double 20%, Fronts are 20% and windshield is 40%
