I just got a used 92 sc3, and after about a week it became more difficult to steer. It is still drivable, but its hard to turn the steering wheel. Is this the problem that all of them have? How expensive is it to fix? Dad gummit.

There was a past thread in the LS forum about the power steering problem.

also check out
Page 3 (smoke from exhausts)
It is a common problem for the LS's and SC's.

I had the PS pump go out (leak) on my SC400 '92. If it's leaking, I would recommend doing it right away, if too much fluid leaks on the alternator your out another ~$400. I got a rebuilt PS pump from www.toysport.com for $210 and did it myself. Took me over 4 hours - never done it before but the dealer wanted $800 for a new pump and labor. - See if it's leaking, if not at least you you have some time...

Well, guess what. My power steering pump is leaking to the alternator and now the alternator is failing. I got a rebuilt alernator for $308.00 and a OEM Power steering pump for $350.00. A machanic buddy of mine is going to install it for me. Also, he just replaced the driver side window regulator.

That's funny Jack, I just replaced my window regulator about 3 months ago. How many miles you got on your car. Have you had any other problems with it recently?

Mrkophee,
I've put in about 125,000 miles on this baby. Haven't had any major problems with the car except recently with the window, power steering and alternator. Anyway, I think 125,000 miles on these items above is not too bad. You know what's funny though, the window regulator broke on me right after I got the BMW 540IA. Conincidence? Perhaps she knows she's got a new sibling.
