Default Jiffy Lube Damaged My SC

Hey, I havent been very active on the forums, but I do check up alot on the posts. Anyways, I have a 93 pearl white sc300 that i got a couple of months ago, and last weekend my dad took it to get inspected at Jiffy Lube even though i specifically told him about the horrors of that so called preventive maintanance oil change place. Anyways, he goes and gets it inspected there, because its close to our house, and of couse when I come home I see something like cigarette burns on the driver side door panal with the plastic/leather like material. Now of course I know it wasent there before I left because I just detailed the interior of my car(I do it every weekend) and I also just waxed it/polished the exterior, so I know where all of the paint chips and stuff are. Anyways, I tell my dad, but he says that I must have done it, but I know it was from Jiffy Lube. Also, I got many paint chips on the drivers door, it looks as if the people at JIffy Lube hit something with it because the clear coat is all gone I am really sad because my very clean and almost perfect interior now has these nasty burn marks on them. What should i do!!!!!
Pics later...

Lesson Learned. Next time don't let your dad convince you to let him take it to Jiffy Lube. Inspections are state mandated charges, no shop can charge you more or less for a yearly inspection. I take mine to the dealer for inspection always, free car wash, and outstanding service.

I don't think you have anything in the way of legal recourse though. My local quick lube shops all have signs that say they are not responsible for lost/damaged property.

Basically it's your word against theirs, unless the actions they took were caught on video tape somewhere.

You're SOL, just take your losses and don't let anyone touch your car unless you're there with them.

Take it to small claims if you and the manager from Jiffy Lube cannot reach some kind of agreement. That is something I wouldnt just suck up and let go.

if you're mechanically inclined, you can do an oil change relatively easy.

1. Ensure the motor is off and the engine is cold
2. Use rhino ramps to lift the car or simply jack it up.
3. Place an oil catch container or a bucket under the car.
4. Use a 14mm socket wrench to remove the oil drain bolt off the oil pan.
5. Let oil drain out, but insure you catch the bolt before it falls in your bucket.
6. Give it about an hour until all the oil has drained out.
7. Put a rag under the oil filter, and with a rag remove oil filter firmly and quickly so a minimal amount of oil falls on the engine. Keep filter right side up.
8. Fill and top off new oil filter with oil and replace old filter.
9. Put grease on 14mm bolt and plug the oil pan.
10. Refill engine with 5.25 liters of oil.
11. Put cap back on.

Sometimes its better to let things go then to make every little thing in life a big deal.

Jiffy lube lost the oil cap on my car and I found out 2 days later...with a lovely oil stain in the insulation under my hood.

I called the GM there and he says's "oh, so that why we have this extra oil-cap laying around." Like it was no big deal.....Lets just say I can no longer go to that oil change anymore w/o a police escort...

Now my car goes to Lexus, and my buddies wrechin' shop...only!!!

The people that work at Jiffy Lube are flippin degenerate meat-heads!!!
(Sorry if anyone on CL works there, but Its true!!!)

I would make sure that everyone you know, knows about what happened to your car, and where it happened....bad publicity has a stronger effect than good publicity. I would also call the area Jiffy Lube supervisor...explain to him what happened, and that you are going to let everyone know where they should NOT go to get a oil change.

Sorry to hear about what happened to you...your not the first, and wont be the last.

Being the Manager of a very lucrative Jiffy Lube myself I will apologize for there ****ty work. There is absolutly no reason why this has happened. I have trained all of my employess to treat each car like there own. But I will tell you this and I know my Regional Manager would probably kick my *** for it. But there is a customer service line that will most likely pay for the damages. I just wish I knew if the store was a corporate or a franchise store. On the bottom of your invoice should be a customer service number. Call it and file a claim. 9 times out of 10 Jiffy Lube International will pay for damages that they have caused. You have proof that it was not caused by you so you should have nothing to worry about. It might take a month or 2 but you will be compensated.

But once again I do apologize for there "LACK of RESPECT" for you're SC.

Holy Crap!!!!

Dude, you need to manage the Algonquin, IL store. The manager there actually tried to start a fight with me in the store...he thought I was wrong in calling the kid who left my oil cap off a "Moron"
I just don't get it anymore...people are so careless and disrespectful to they're jobs and others stuff.
In my line of work...If I'm careless at work...people die, or are permanently messed up.
I want someone to think that way when they work on my car!

BTW I do about 75% of my own repairs. But I decided to take my SC to a quality tuneup a few weeks ago for an oil change, for no other reason other than laziness.
Well i had a bad feeling about the shady "mechanic" that did the oil change. So i checked the oil level the next day, As suspected it was low. ( I had to add close to 2 quarts. )
I mean really , why do people go out of their way to be Fu** ups?

Call that customer service number, ...or whatever and file a claim. Tell them you WOULD have called sooner, but you didnt know how to handle it. And tell them YOU brought your car in. Dont try to say you sent somebody, in your car, and when it came back there was damage. Like Sinister said, theyle probably pay up. Then, ....I would let it be known to every person you know, not to go there.

The Nissan dealership dropped a bolt in my engine, in my 300z, somehow. It was destroyed. #1 piston turned sideways. They tryed to tell me the timing belt must have broke while it was running, and it somehow seized my engine. Nevertheless, I started telling every customer in the lot, on my way out, "these people are crooks! Dont buy a car from them, Theyle rob you!. ........I was pissed. They never did pay for anything.

Now I work on my own stuff, no matter how hard the job. Never hurts to learn a few things.

I didnt, but they showed up after the inspection. They look like ash marks from cigarettes that got onto the leather type material and melted small spots through the thin material right above the driver side window controls. I know they were fresh because some of the plasic was still hanging off and im sure they werent there before.

heres the damage. tell me if you think im over reacting over this or not.
