0-60mph times
Hi,
I don't actually own a Lexus, but my dad has one, he has a 1993 SC300. I think it is SC300, it is the Twin Turbo V6 anyway. Out here they call them Toyota Soarers.
I noticed alot of the forum members have done quite a bit of modifications to the cars engine and stuff like that, and I was just wondering what sort of 0-60mph times you where able to achieve, and what are the main things you modified to achieve those times?
Thx

Hehehe....
A twin turbo Soarer will do the 0-62mph in 6.3-6.6 seconds stock (8PSI) depending on launch and surface. Add a 3" exhaust and boost it to 12PSI then you'll look at everything as fair game. Those 2 mods are good for flat 14 sec 1/4 miles and a 0-62mph in 6 or under, depending on traction.

Rwhp is the figure that is actually put to the wheels.
Typical advertised horsepower is the amount made at the crankshaft of the engine. The rest of the drivetrain induces losses due to friction, inertia, etc. These losses are the difference between advertised crank hp and rwhp... For example, the SC300 rated at 225hp actually puts down between 175-185hp to the wheels. A 300hp GS400 puts down around 230rwhp.

Hmmm.....
I think Stormwolf lives outside the US and has a Jap spec Soarer. Thus the Twin Turbo. If you're really chasing power then swap the turbos for bigger items. The stoke 1JZ-GTE internals are supposed to be good for 600hp+.

Ahh ok, so basically the more Hp you have the faster the take off? to a certain degree. And yes I live in Australia, I think out here they sell mostly V6 twin turbo's, but over there they sell alot of v8's, well thats what I am told anyway, could be wrong.
So do these HP modifications cost alot? and do they suck up alot more fuel?

Stormwolf;
The Twin Turbo or "TT" is an inline 6 cylinder not V6, if your worried about fuel usage then you should'nt (or your dad should'nt) be driving a Soarer as all that power costs when you use it.
92 Soarer TT, 0-60mph 5.97s, 210hp at wheels ( two up with 150lbs weight in the rear).

I think you will find that should read "stock internals", as in unmodified pistons, valves, crankshaft, con rods, etc, I am not sure about the longevity at 600bhp as Toan said (Hi Toan) but certainly 450bhp should be no problem.

Hey :P
Yeah... 400-450hp is stable with the standard turbo's. I've read tech articles where the 1JZ-GTE is good for 600-800hp with new turbo's (everything inside is stock, thus standard internals). The real limiting feature of the standard 1JZ-GTE are the toyota CT12A ceramic turbo's which when blown at 14PSI dont really survive. Ever thought of sticking 2 GT28's High flowed to 400hp each replacing the stockie units? 750hp here we come...
And a crux to my spelling mistake. stoke = stock . :P
And some info if you were wondering... :
Soarer 1JZ-GTE Twin Turbo GT
Displacement : 2491cc
Cylinder arrangement : EFI DOHC Inline 6
Cylinder Firing order : 1 , 5 , 3 , 6 , 2 , 4
Compression Ratio (pre VVTi) : 8.5:1
Bore and Stroke : 86x71.5mm
Size of engine (LxWxH) : 860x670x665
Engine Weight : 217kg
Turbo (Pre VVTi) : 2 x CT12A Ceramic Turbo's
Turbo Impeller D1/D2 : 37/54mm
Turbo Turbine and Wheel D1t/D2t : 52/42mm
For an indication of how good this engine is. (Dont know why it's always called the smaller brother of the 2JZ when it's a good engine in it's own right). check out this :

Smacked a 1JZ-GTE into a MKII Soarer. (the SC400 is the MKIII soarer).

Here's the link for the 5 second tire burning 0-60 run
It was very misty out, so the tires didn't squeel, just spun badly. You can tell the amount of wheelspin by the speedo.
