I enquired about doing the reverse for my Soarer (getting the chrome window trim fitted). Thinking that it was just a frame, you could imagine the shock I had when I was told I had to remove the windows to get to them

Explain please? My car has black window trim and I would love to have the chrome strip around the windows.

Well my trim had started to peel a tad just at the top of the B pillar, and I had noticed that the B-pillar had shiny chrome underneath. I thought maybe the black window frame trim had the same shiny trim under it so I took a razor blade and took a small piece of it off and there was indeed shiny chrome trim under it. I continued along with the razor blade until I got enough of the black part off in a single strip to grab hold of with my fingers. Then I used the part I had grabbed with my fingers and slowly pulled it along and the whole trim began coming off as one long strip, much like you would peel a sticker. It continued to peel, sometimes it would rip and I would need to restart with the razor blade, but for the most part, the whole thing came off cleanly. It left a little bit of glue on the chrome part itself, but that came off with a little bit of goof off/goo gone/wd40 would probably work too. My only advice if you're gonna peel it back is to be EXTREMELY careful!

I too am thinking of painting the chrome trim to black. I stopped by the body shop yesterday to see my car. And with the new color on it I feel that black trim would look better than chrome. The emblems are going to be painted black to stand off the car better. So I figured that the trim should be black as well.

That looks very hot.

What did you use to unchrome it?

It's all about black chrome. I picked up an extra set of trims and i'm going to have them redone, and then repaint portions of it black so it's just like stock. Best of both worlds, but overkill

Black chrome...now that would be sweet, just spray it with clear that has a little black mixed into it. post some pics if you do it.

Default Got Rid of The Chrome

Well just bought some "Blackout Tape" and got rid of the chrome. What you guys think?

Blackout Tape, $4.95+Tax at Pep Boys.

Notice anything different on the SC300 emblem? I painted the spaces so that it doesn't look connected.

yes of course you would have to remove the window.. you would have to get a body shop to do it. i will probably get it done when i get my whole car repainted to black.
