Default Strange Stuff on Paint

So today i was looking at my car and I saw this....

It looks like some kind of paint or something, and it wasent there before. I have no idea what it is and i cant scratch it off with my nail. Any ideas on what it is and how to remove it?

It might be from all the construction around my house. I have no idea though....
edit: its on the roof, near the windshield, between the drivers and passenger side.

Use a plastic scraper to scrape off as much as you can. Then wet sand with high grit sandpaper followed by buffing.

Thank you I saw it in the movie preview for a quick second

You may wanna try 'Scratch X' . Its a mild compound sold at PepBoys, Autozone, etc...
I'd use that first before wet sanding and buffing stock paint. Its hard to tell how much clear coat is on older paint, so you run the risk of 'burning thru'.

Im sure it'll come out clean

Good luck!!

My guess is that the car was repainted and masking was removed before the paint was completly cured and the paint on the masking was dry and flaked into the that area...

Im pretty sure my car wasent repainted. It might be from all the construction or something though. Im 100 percent sure it was not there a week ago.

It looks like old house paint chips from a "strip job" Like someone was removing old house paint with a chemical to soften it up. Then scraped it away. Since the scrapings were still wet when they hit your car, drying made them harden and stick. Hopefully the chemical did not eat into your paint. Remove, Wash, Clay-bar, wash again, Wax, wax some more!!!

That's my take on it.

It was Col. Mustard, with the scraper, in the garage.

thanks neuro, im going to try that on friday.
its in the garage right now so no more crazyness will happen to it.
hopefully....

edit: i cant scrape it off because its very close to the layer of clear coat, but not high enough to use anything to scrape off. i can feel it with my finger nail though. maybe ill use a rubbing compound or something to try to remove it somehow....

so funny. that is a good theory also, in which case Ms. ***s plan should work.

I'd suggest claybaring it... it's gentle on the paint, unlike wetsanding.... SW's black SC is a great example of how wetsanding a single-stage paint looks awesome.

all the other colors on the SC have a clear, so I'd take the gentle approach first before getting truly abrasive with the problem

Im not sure if a clay bar will remove the crap. It seems like its stuck on really tight and might have melted on to the clear coat
