I was an aircraft painter back in the day and we used polyurethane paint. If I had a choice I would use that. The stuff is basically liquid plastic. it can take a hell of a beating. It keeps it's color and gloss for a long time. I would think it would be the last paint job I would ever need.

I used Immeron for my Cessna. My current aircraft was painted white gelcoat.

Car paint like Dupont is fine for cars. Just $$$

But not as expen$ive as Immeron!
SCs look sweet in white when done up right.

how many of you guys had the windows/weatherstripping removed when painitng?

Just my opinion but if you plan to keep the car for more than a year or two, don't bother with anything less than a $1500ish paint job. As some have already said, it will definatly show! I'm still debating on how good I should go on my car because I drive my car like a maniac and regardless of quality, the paint job won't last me more than two years on the front lip and areas around the wheels.

I was looking at a guys paint here who just painted over the rubber trim. I wanted to ask if he needed help on it...it looked that bad

Paint prep:

its had 3 and a half Kandy paint jobs

I did a color change on a car a few years ago that was done all at a shop. Interior and engine was pulled.

They charged the 'BMW rate'......an ungodly amount of money

My buddy who's going to autobody school painted mine for free. Shaved the antenna, emblem holes and fixed some dings. He also modified my front bumper ( cut out the horozontial bars next to the fog lights). I paid $400, the cost of the paint and clearcoat which he got half price.

If you go with good paint like Dupont base coat you'll pay several hundred $$ per quart. Depending on color you want. Same with the clear. And stay away from the base/clear in one shot. Good supplies will not fade or peel for several years if properly cared for and properly prepped before painting. Where as cheap clear and base will look crappy no matter how well you care for it. Also the quality in clear coat material is huge. Go with several coats of each. I like to get about 3 coats of clear. Sometimes you'll pay for 3 and get two. You'll never know the diffrence unless you sit and watch 'em spray it. But at least buy good paint & clear if you want it to last. You'll drop $1200+ easy just in materials at the paint shop.

But why bother? Someone willjust hit you car with a shopping cart or back into you in the parking lot after you do all that work.

SC karma.

Lol..lol..lol...Thats why I park like 3, 400 feet away from the front door....lol.. People be like dame you think you could have parked any farther away!!! I ve seen kids open there doors so hard that the paint just fell on the ground..Not going to get me!!!! Ill walk first...
