Default '93 or '97 SC300 Buyer - What is this car worth?

Hello all,

New to CL, and have been searchnig for an SC for about 5 months now. Am currently considering two SC 300's, details below. My question is, which is the better buy & why? Any suggestions/thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance, and I look forward to becoming a regular member of CL once I (finally) become an SC owner.

1) 1993 SC 300 - Manual, 90k, black/tan, original owner, garaged, good condition, some leather repair done, broken antenna motor, clean title, $7,700

2) 1997 SC300 - Auto, 118k, red/tan, second owner, garaged, excellent condition, always serviced by Lexus, garaged, was in accident in 2004 (front bumber replaced), but has a clean title, $8,500.

** ALSO: Any idea if the cost of ownershhip would vary significantly for these vehicles? ***

For the extra $800, a 4 year newer car is definitely the way to go. '97 for sure.

If you just wont it to use as a daily driver then go with the 97 but if you wont to do any racing with it i say get the manual 93.Sure you could get a 4 year newer car for under a 1k but it also has almost 30k more miles on it too.

I adore my '92 sc300, but I'd love it even more if it was manual.

Really, that's the rub. But if you're a manual transmission fanatic you wouldn't even be asking.

Yes, exactly. That's my dilemma: the fun of a manual with fewer miles, versus a newer model that has been pampered it's whole life.

I'd personally get the car that has been pampered more (ie. the 97)... you can always fit a manual to it later on (and if it has the automatic gated shifter in it I get first dibs if you're going manual ... please? )

I would say make sure you get on the ground and get a GOOD look underneath that front bumper on the 1997 model. Otherwise, if you like manual cars I would say go for the 93... if you dont really care, go for the 97. Maint. and upkeep will be the same on both no matter what.
