Nope its totally for security reasons. The newer lexuses close all the way, but if something is stuck in the middle it will reopen automatically as opposed to closing halfway.

The one thing I wish the sunroof did do...Close when the key is turned off.

I had a Monte Carlo Z34 and it did that regardless of what position it was in...Funny...that was the ONLY thing I liked about that car.
