Red face Soarer Downunder help with wheels

Gday ClubLexus

I have just joined clublexus about a 3 days ago and I am astonished with all the beautiful cars on this site particularly the Sc300 series. I am currently the proud owner of a 95 model twin turbo soarer with the 5 speed box. It is powered by the 1jz-gte but will be replaced shortly with its bigger brother. Current mods include k&n airfilter, mandrel bent exhaust system, custom exhaust manifold with wastegate partitioned flanges, front mount cooler, apexi powerfc, hks hipermax 2 coilovers. The car goes great, dynoed with 193kw at the wheels at 12psi but I want it to look the part as well and I think the wheels are letting it down. I bought the car with 17x8.5 front and 17x9.5 but I feel they are simply not big enough going from some of the pictures I have seen here. Can anyone give me any recommendations because I am a strong believer of 'wheels make the car' theory. Its something I want to get right the first time. The nice wide, tough, deep dish look is what I am after. Also want something that is both funtional and looks good. No point having a car that cant put the power down, cant handle and requires you to dodge pot holes all the time. Would like to maintain standard body skirts etc. Getting the oem black lip resprayed at the moment. The car is pearl white in colour.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Regards Rob

Welcome!! Always good to have some international JDM brothers! Wheels certainly make the apperance of the car, but 17x8.5/9.5 is not too small IMO. Take a look at my car, 17x8F and 17x9R...functional too @ only 18lbsF/19.5lbsR per wheel!

The right stance, and 17's look great! But I know what you are after (I'm after the same thing, I just don't have money for new rims, let alone 18's with a big lip!). Good luck with your car, can't wait to see the 2J swap!

Edit: Check out this thread for wheel tips! https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=158592

Another international JDM brother signing in

What wheels are on your car at the moment? 9.5" seems to be a common aftermarket wheel width fitment for our cars (I see them on a LOT of Soarers that have come into the country).

Whereabouts in NSW are you from? Should round up everyone for a NSW cruise one time. Also check out Soarer Central for more info (unless you're already signed up there too).

Welcome to CL.

Wheel size matters, BUT the type of tires matter most.

Gday Again

Thanks for all the replies. The current wheels on the car are ame's. Seem to be a old type style. Sorta a five spoke design from the center tapering out to the rim. Has a tiny lip.

Will post some pictures shortly which will be alot easier then explaining it.

For those who are in NSW I live in bass hill or close to the bankstown district.

Thanks once again for everyone's input. At the moment I think 18 inch wheels are the go. Really like JoshFSM's silver beast. You have done a great job to it but 11 inches wide...........phoar thats some serious rubber and I think I will have some problems with fitting something like that on my car.

Once again thanks for all the advice

Regards Rob
