that microphone thingy is a movement detector and will be incorperated into your alarm system, to test - lock car with yourself inside allow the alarm to arm while sitting perfectly still with alarm armed move arm/body etc and if the device is working correctly the alarm should sound ,my soarer has one situated above and to the front of both doors also boot , bonnet and door switches. usually found on better quality alarm systems though mine is an after market fitment.
