If I walk away, it's for a reason. I weigh the $$$, I weigh the car on a scale of 1 - 10, I weigh the purpose it will serve.
The car scored for me as follows: ten being the best.
Ability to be mint with under $500 work - (8) (which would put it at $9,000 on resale)
Ability to drive enough to justify the purchase - (6)
Ability to resale down the road and break even or better- (10)
Ability to fit in my driveway with 3 other SC's and an IS300 - (3)
Ability to keep my credit cards below $12,000 over the next 6 months from trying to build my IS into a beast and make this perfect at the same time (with a few other mods )- (2)
Overall interest in the car since I already have 3 of them - (4)
The big kicker.... Pretty much identical to my Black '92 that has been converted into a 97, so no real gain from the purchase. Also my black 92 is nearly flawless at this point, this was not. Lastly the "32" white kills the cathode display in brightness and I don't screw with cathodes so I'd forever drive around with a dimmer cluster than my other 97 convert. (2)
The other big kicker...... No gated shifter, no 300 hp VVTI, no DRL, and no heated seats. = no sale. (negative 10)
If I would not have owned the IS or one of the other SC's....... I'd have scooped it up in a heartbeat for the money.

Oh and I double verified the coolant overflow tank had a very tiny crack in it and was making little bubbles on the seam which were blowing onto the fan so that was the ONLY mechanical flaw to the car..... $20 fix.

its good that you didn't buy it... honestly i think that would have been a huge overkill... sure when you think about it, at the moment, it may be a too good too pass up, but how many sc's do you need? sure you could also say you could resell it knowing you helped restore another sc400 in this world, but with already owning two other sc why not just enjoy the ones you have? i love lexus cars just as much as the next one here in this community but i still can't fathom the idea of ones need for another sc ... but if you have the the money(for the next one), ey, its your money- more power to you!

money is the least of the factor. I have an Sc to drive, and one to mod... this would have been something that would have needed to have a purpose and when I was standing there I couldn't find one.
