Common repairs
The dashes go bad...
The Tourgue converter goes bad if the fluid isn't changes regually(15K Miles)
the powersteering leaks(onto the alternator and mealts the harness)
Various dash lights and HAVC lights go out....
Just to name a few!

hey papanature,
I've heard powersteering leak is common problem on sc.
gauge, needle neon go bad as well.
it's not major problems but it gets annoying.
anything else, everyone?

My 93 Green SC400 has all the problems people just list for you and more. Those are the very common problem with SC400 (don't know about SC300). Head lights and brake lights been known to have moisture inside. Noisy sun roof, CD changer, Speakers...
It's just another high price Toyota that's all. Check out any Toyota problems Lexus has those problems too.

How to recognize??
Real good information guys. As a fairly new owner of a SC300
I find it very interesting to learn that there are some "more" common repairs that other owners have experienced.
Although we have an SC, we too have moisture in the headlight and a flashing speedometer needle.
My question to those of you with leaking water pumps is this...
what signs if any could a person look for in order to determine if his or her power steering unit needs to be replaced before anything bad happens?
By the way, for all "new" owners of SC 300's or 400's I'd like to add that replacement of the timing belt and water pump on any used car with 90,000 miles or more would be a wise, preventive maintance messure, in fact, our SC goes into our favorite mechanics hands this coming monday for that work, even though there is nothing apparently wrong. This will give you piece of mind for at least the next 60,000 miles. Just do it!

If you're doing the timing chain, have them change the water pump also, along with couple of seals, idlers...
As for the steering pump, just have to keep an eye on it everytime you check your engine oil. Look for eny wetness below the pump and doew the cover get wet also? If everything is OK, the engine bay should be dry...
