Common things to look for when buying used SC?
I'm in a pinch for money and may need to give up my IS350 for a little while... I've got a good line on a '95 SC300 5 speed and need to know if there's anything unusual to look for... I'm a Supra fan from way back so I know most of the mechanical details but was wondering about specifics to the car (rust prone spots, water leakage, electrical problems, anything else)
Thanks for the advice!

from 92 to 2000 they we built with the same quality it depends on which bodystyle you like or if you want to do a conversion to your pre 97 body .my choice personally is the 92- 95 .just because its obd1.you have more forgiveness when modding/swapping the engine .get the a/c ,cluster control arms cheacked out before you buy 1 thats the only thing that really go bad with them .other than that the engines are bullitproof 2j or 1uz .

make sure all the body lines are even. make sure u have no rust spots in the body itself. make sure the mechanics of the car is good.. u should have no problems with the 95... i luv my 95 there hasnt been one single problem.
BTW the best year for a 2jzgte w/ 6 speed is a 95. its still OBD1 and the trans tunnel is big enough to fit the v160 w/o mods.

I would advise you to do a search for problems with SC, I had no idea what I was getting into when I bought mine this summer. I thought I got a bargain and to an extent I did, but there are issues to deal with such as.
1. Distributor O-ring being replaced.
2. Alternatoer being replaced to to leaky Distributor
3. Powersteering hose leaking, which I haven't changed yet
4. Moisture in headlights
These are a few of the issues that I'm run into

Jamaican, sign up for NELOC down towards the bottom of the main forum page and come out to the big meet we are having next sunday if you are in the NYC/Long Island area. We can help you fix up some of those issues at the meet when everyone gets together.

New here but allways into the sc. now own a 95 sc300 bought it abot a year ago with a bad engine got it replaced, and i love it, beware of:
1, power steering really expensive fixat least a 1k
2, shocks, also at leats 1k installed
3, tires, at least 700 if you want stock
4, interior gadgets, stereo,a/c control module, power windows and on mine at least (dont know if its common, the combination switch, controls the: blinkers,c.control, lights, steering wheel position) about 400 only parts.
Overall an awsome car and even though i have put a lot of money into mine and it still needs paint, body work, and interior work. I still love my little money pit
