So I went into a Lexus dealer today to get a new key made for my SC. The guy who was supposed to cut the key came out of the back and said he couldn't do it. Apparently when he tried to match my VIN with the key code (the one that comes on the metal tag when you get your car, the one I didn't get because I bought it used), it came up with an invalid code that didn't even work with the machine. He told me to come in tomorrow and he'd try to figure it out, but is there any way to look up the code so I can go in prepared? Thanks in advance everyone.

Longo Lexus in El Monte, CA. I figured the codes came from the VIN as well, and the VIN did generate a number, but I guess it was invalid? I dunno where the problem is coming from...maybe because they were closing soon and he didn't want to deal with me til tomorrow.

Thanks a lot man, that'll be my next approach. I went back today and figured out what was going on. So the key codes range from 0000 - 5000. The code they got off my VIN was 18237. Obviously that doesn't fit within the parameters, so there's an extra digit somewhere. 8237 doesn't make sense either, so they cut me a 1823 key. Now I've got an hour drive to see if this cut works...I'm crossing my fingers.
